"As I have already said, this is a great result for the No side."

Eh, no it isn't. It is a disssapointing result for the no side. Obviously a no victory would have been too much to hope for, but more than 3 or 4 no constituencies would have sweetened the pill a bit.

My respect for Donegal people is back up for the first time since the opening of the Daniel O'Donnell museum.

Baby steps. This referendum brought the Yes sides arguments out into the open.

Now they have to prove that the nonsense they spouted is actually fact.

I would prefer though, that we were all taking the giant leaps and bounds of our Donegal brethern.

    At least Merkel is happy

She said: “The result shows that the Irish population continues to support the demanding consolidation and reform agenda of the Irish Government.

This commands – particularly because of the ensuing cuts and hardships – special appreciation and respect.”
Enda seeking a deal on the bank debt in return for his obedience. If one is given it will be because one is needed for Spain, and will have nothing to do with obedience

At an EU leaders’ summit at the end of the month, the use of the new EU bailout fund by banks will be discussed. The Government is hoping if this step has to be taken to assist Spain, it will also be available to Ireland.

Enda " raised the issue " with Merkel in a phonecall? He needs to do so with menaces. Metaphorically speaking of course. And Gilmore needs to do the same with our buddy Hollande.

The Germans are now saying that the Treaty is a step toward fiscal union. Or have they been saying this all along? I can't recall it. And certainly this was never explained to the Irish people in any material I read on the referendum produced by the YES side.

BBC programme did raise this few weeks ago re political and fiscal union which set off alarm bells iy my mind and also they discussed the problem of euro as well. Yes side material didn't mention any of this- economy of truth if you like.

It's an "ever closer union." The road has been clearly mapped since Maastricht.

Someone should try checking this out with Merkel's press office. I would like to know exactly the words that Enda Kenny said.

He rang Merkel "to confirm that the treaty had been passed." Omg.

You'd think that there were no news outlets in Germany. Or that Merkel has no aides to keep her briefed on what's happening in the world.

Did he phone all the other EU Heads of State to confirm it to them? Busy day for Gump in that case.

I can just imagine the conservation with Merkel, "Howya Boss, it's me Enda in Ireland. Got that job done for you."

Apparently, he did. According to Miriam Lord on the front page of the Times, both Kenny and Gilmore did a ring around Europe.
