Default The Great Irish Fire Asset Sale

With the news that the government is going to have a fire sale of some assets in the wake of the power generation arms of Bord Gais and the ESB, who is next? Aer Lingus was going to be completely privatised I thought . Anyone anywhere else that might go cheap?

A fire sale not just in Ireland, but right across Europe all at the same time. What could go wrong with that?

The government stake in Aer Lingus has been up for sale for months. Lastest news was that Leo got a sun tan in Abu Dhabi a few weeks back talking to Eihad about it.
Lotto is definitely going to go.

We're only selling trees and not the land apparently which will probably include ...

Over 607 hectares, (fifteen hundred acres) of native Irish woodland were restored and designated as 16 'Millennium Forests', and are dedicated in perpetuity to the people of Ireland. There are two types of Millennium forests: new and mature native woodlands. The new forests were naturally regenerated and planted using native Irish seed. The mature woodlands are at least 200 years old and most are almost certainly much older. A native tree was planted on behalf of every household in Ireland and a certificate was posted to all homes giving details as to where trees were planted under the Family Tree Scheme. These trees were planted as part of the restoration of these native woodland communities, which are valuable remnants of our once vast native forest resource. The forests form a lasting legacy for all to enjoy and include woodland walks, nature trails, interpretative and recreational facilities.

The Millennium project shows that this generation cares about our natural heritage. Future generations will look back to the year 2000 as the year when a positive statement was acted upon, signifying the development and rehabilitation of our native woodlands for the benefit of us all.

All to be revealed by Señor Howlin tomorrow. We should also find out how much of the potential cash receipts will be used for "job creation/stimulus"

Shag all PJ, the gov will be happy with a sop and they will be lucky to get one . Which they will waste.

I suppose one thing we should talking about is the liberal brigade and the promise of competition and all the benefits it will rain down upon us.
Collins and Leahy will singing but what is the reality of their thesis in a market as small as Ireland.

    Shag all again id say.

Private monopolies replace Semi-state monopolies. yay!

"The land Coillte Teo is now selling for development was given to them by the State in 1988 to ensure that our woodlands were run commercially, not to enable them to sell the family silver to service bank loans".

The Brits did it I don't think it worked too well for them. The French didn't fall for it and their electricity and gas co's are every feckin where.

It won't work for us but some foreign investers wil no doubt get even richer.

Rumour has it Bertie has given up on the Athlone/China deal and now wants to sell all our trees, he really should stick to the horses, Russia is next door to China and is covered in forests at way cheaper pricing than the Bert would be looking for.
