BANKRUPT businessman Sean Quinn wants to purge his contempt and is willing to co-operate with the former Anglo Irish Bank, the High Court was told.

This morning the former billionaire was due to be sentenced at the High Court for breaking court orders not to interfere with up to €500m worth of properties in the family’s international property group (IPG).

"He wants to co-operate and purge his contempt," said Mr Grant who is now also representing Sean Quinn Jnr who has just completed a three-month sentence for contempt of court.


Mr Quinn Jnr, dressed in jeans and a jumper, apologised for his clothing in court - he had just been brought from Mountjoy Prison this morning and had expected to be released last night

The full judgement in Junior's appeal has been published.

"In a four to one majority ruling, the court found there was "ample evidence" before the High Court to make the finding beyond a reasonable doubt that he was party to a $500,000 payment from a Quinn company."

Russian banks have an unusual way of dealing with customers, once funds are placed in their banks they consider it to belong to them and it is very hard to get it back from them.

Hopefully the Russians will tell the Quinns to take a hike and keep their money. If the state can't get at it I don't want the Quinns having it either. It'd be good enough for them- the Russians must surely realise that the Quinns can hardly pursue them through the courts for money/assets they weren't supposed to have.

That'd put a few tears in Sean's eyes alright. If I were a Russian bank official I'd basically freeze those accounts and wait a few years.

I'm fascinated by Dead-From-The-Neck-Up Lenihan's transfer to the parish of Skolkovo near Moscow.

One can hardly allege he is being 'looked after' for services rendered in the past to the powers that be behind Skolkovo (a fairly unholy alliance of US corporate bankers and what looks like a photo gallery of ex-KGB who have done well out of the peace).

I like to think of Conor as a sort of hostage ... in quiet moments. Working away in the boiler room of the Skolkovo institute under the beady eye of Big Magda shifting coal from one huge pile to another.

"Hey domb-fock", I imagine Big Magda yelling, 'do zot dance again. Rifferdance!"

Conor sighs. Picks up the shovel, takes the yakhair ringleted wig down from the shelf and begins to shuffle sideways up and down while Big Magda creases up with silent laughter. And his brother told him he was going to be a 'Mineral Resources Consultant'. Poor Conor.

Its a good summary but IMO misses a key point, to be King of the Celtic Tiger, SQ needed to control Anglo, in this he failed spectacularly but it would have given him access and a degree of control over most of the developers in one daring swoop, the culchie nearly made it.
