If only more TD's would stand up for those who elected them and follow the lead of North West MEP Marion Harkin, she has today called on the Government to fund in full the cost of upgrading any and all Septic Tanks that are inspected and fail to meet the required standard.
This is how it should be, well done Marion.

She's absolutely correct but septic tanks are almost entirely a rural concern and the current cabinet is almost entirely city based so there's not a shred of hope that her call will make a difference.

    Hi Baron.
Ponder this one for me, two large village communities and one small grouping of 40/50 holiday homes near where I live each discharge their waste to a community sewage system, all three then discharge directly into the sea. The point of discharge is a feeding ground for seabirds, especially seagulls. The undilute pollution from some of these systems in there for all to see.
But as I understand these systems will not fall under the remit of the Tank Inspectors. But each connected dwelling while not having an individual tank still discharges to a septic tank type system.
I believe your are correct about M/s Harkin's proposal not standing a chance, but fair is fair and I hope Rural Ireland Votes for the parties that really try to represent the people when it comes to the next election.

Baron, another point worth making. The Government (local or otherwise) supplied all the non rural dwellers with a means of disposing of foul water etc but rural dwellers are being asked in some cases maybe to pay a very high cost for something thats free for most, it stinks in more ways than one.

Harkin putting on the beal bocht and wanting the taxpayer to pay for the consequences of rampant one-off housing from which her constituents benefit but refuse to pay for. She is just another screeching parish pumper out on the plains looking for votes. Typical

Hi all. Today a cllr from Donegal reveals he had registered his septic tank when the registration fee was Euro 5.00, September 2012,, today he says that he received his registration certification which expires in 2017 which to him begs the question.... Is the registration fee going to be a recurring charge every 5 years if so just another slippery trick of the present administration.

Has anybody any news yet on any septic tank inspections that have taken place, curious to know just what is done during an inspection and if any tanks have failed the so called inspection.
