Default Western Australia to throw open doors to skilled migrants

The current mining frenzy in WA shows no signs of abating as the State chamber of Commerce estimated it would need an additional 400 skilled workers a week for the 61 projects already online and the 28 developments due to begin in the next few years.

Major resource and infrastructure projects in WA will need up to 400 additional workers every week to fill new jobs, according to research tracking the sector's workforce requirements.

Pit Crew Consulting's analysis of 61 projects that are under way, and a further 28 likely to come to fruition in the next few years, indicates an imminent scramble for tradesmen and engineering workers.

Principal Peter Dyball said the coming labour shortage could be "more pronounced" than during the so-called "mining boom part one."

Good news for unemployed construction workers here, though.

    not so fast,

From today onwards the following occupations have been added to the SOL ( Skilled Occupations List )

    Production Manager (Mining)
    Metallurgists
    Optometrist
    Computer Network and Systems Engineer

Most of these were added to the list due to skills shortages and expected growth in these occupations.

Meanwhile the following occupations have been removed from to the SOL:

    Chemist
    Audiologist
    Bricklayer
    Wall and Floor Tiler

Two if not three will have a considerable effect on Irish there or planning to go.

There is a good few working in health and safety in Oz whom are working in health and safety. Audiology was one of the branches in this as there was no jobs in it here as its pretty much a closed market.

It's a shame so many people here are useless at languages. I know that's being blunt but as hard as it must be to leave surely living 2 hours away in europe is better than 2 days away in Australia. One way ticket as well when you have to go so far away.
