    Default Chuck Feeney to fund new Irish economic think tank

    Interesting to see what this will come up with. Chuck's last venture into funding research concerning res publica in Ireland circa 2005 didn't end very well.
    Our new independent think tank, the Irish Fiscal Policy Research Centre, to be called publicpolicy.ie, has been established to provide policymakers and civil society with the best available evidence to help inform the economic choices we face.
    We are fortunate to be funded by Atlantic Philanthropies, so we are not financially dependent on Government, business, union or other interests.
    Our website, publicpolicy.ie, will be launched soon. People who wish to be informed when it goes live can leave their email address on the site.
    The project has been established with these ambitions:
    * Carry out independent research to inform fiscal (tax and expenditure) policy choices;
    * Communicate the results effectively;
    * Stimulate constructive discussion among policymakers, civil society and the public.
    We aim to make it as easy as possible for people to understand the choices and their implications, and most of what we provide will be free to all.

    Wouldn't be a cv I'd be proud of, given the state of the economy.

    Chuck's retirement do. Niall O'Dowd was there to record the moment for history. That's the Niall O'Dowd who for one giddy moment almost put his hat in the ring for a presidential bid (Irish, not US)
    They came to praise Chuck Feeney yesterday in Dublin at Dublin Castle and it was about time.

    Nine universities, a former President of Ireland, Mary Robinson, and the current Prime Minister Enda Kenny gathered at the former seat of British power in Ireland to pay their respects.

    I was delighted to be there to witness the long overdue tribute to the man who may well be the most important Irish person of the last half century.
