Irish Times on opposition Troika meeting today
Why then is this explicitly in the MOU“One of the main points was the reaffirmation by the troika that the Government has a great deal of flexibility in framing the budget,” said the party’s finance spokesman, Michael McGrath.
“The overall target of €3.5 billion has to be achieved, but the individual components of that are entirely a matter for Government, including the introduction of a property tax.” The troika is open to good quality alternative suggestions as long as fiscal targets are achieved, he added.

three summonses for non-declaration

Interesting. Looks like the enforcement phase is kicking off:
Meanwhile, Mayo County Council has confirmed it has issued eight summonses, relating to 25 properties, in relation to non-payment of household charges.
Acting county secretary John McHale explained yesterday: “These summonses were issued following a number of reminder letters to multiple property owners.
“This is the commencement of the next phase of an ongoing process for collection of household charges that is being implemented on a nationwide basis,” he said.
“It is expected that other local authorities will be issuing proceedings in the coming days and weeks.”

The Anti-HC campaign is for the most part about votes for SP/SWP and Mayo wouldn't be the most fertile ground for that.
Now that they've been caught with their trousers down they'll probably mount an expedition to the West for the resumption of the case in December.
Since this is a live case we should be mindful when posting that the accused are entitled to due process and the presumption of innocence.
Back up.....
This is low hanging fruit
"it was an offence to fail to make a declaration and it was a separate offence to fail to pay the household charge."
Easy, peasy, well known flat owners in Westport?? As the French say 'pour encourager les autres' - frightener.....
Note the amount of publicity - slow news week, pliant local hack, fed by the CoCo.......
what else?? oh yes, lawyers fees, presumably FG supporters....
I ask the question - again - how much is all this costing? - ask your TD to ask the question, what is the proposed nett income from the various troika proposed new money raising ideas, especially ones like the septic tank registration.
Trying to find out if Uncle Joe had anything to say about the latest development I came on this page from last December. And who's that looking out at us but the fragrant Clare Daly.
Someone will be heading for Siberia for not airbrushing that shot.![]()
