The emphasis on protests in local council chambers, even though councillors have no powers in relation to the Household Charge,
makes sense of course now that CAPTA - (the SP wing of CAHWT?) is standing multiple candidates in the local elections. http://revolutionaryprogramme.wordpr...cil-elections/

CAPTA seems to be sticking to the primarily anti-tax, rather than anti neo liberalism, approach of CAHWT.

Using peoples' anger over the tax, and inability in many cases to pay, for party-building purposes, come what may.

Any reports on the man who was on hunger strike outside the Dail, over the Property Tax?

Tony rochford is still on hunger strike-I think he is 25 days roughly on hunger strike-in his last video he says he is prepared to go all the way with his hunger strike.

Tip of the iceberg, in terms of the amount of desperation, and inability to pay, in Ireland. RTE was reporting that his family has taken him home. He looks very ill in the video.

Perhaps he should stay alive and stand for election instead.

216,000 households have not paid, according to a Maynooth planning professor on RTE this morning.

The non compliance seems to be highest in the main urban areas, Cork and Dublin, and in Donegal. This could reflect a more visible campaign in Cork and Dublin, but also the presence of larger working class communities who may be taking a shared view on this ?

While over 80% have paid, and some of those remaining will probably pay in the next couple of weeks, it is still a substantial number.

Around 90,000 mortgages are said to be in arrears, so it may be that around 100,000 are in the position where they don't have any spare cash at all.

It still leaves a large group of non-payers who may be acting out of protest.

How many are anti-tax, and how many anti-austerity is anyone's guess.

Enda Kenny is grinding the sole of his jackboot into our faces over the early gouging of Property Tax. 90% have paid this year's tax. I guess it is a triumphalist gesture, as well as being part of the bail-in appropriation of cash to fill the unfillable hole in the national debt.

Next time a campaign is planned, let's have one that has some chance of being won.

600m Property Tax going in to dressing Irish Water for privatisation and lining crony pockets.

Tony Rochford spent the day chained to the wall of an Ulster Bank branch.

Car cavalcade - hat tip to CLR.

Below the video was a contact reference of "www.nohometax.com" - which does not seem to exist.

This is "nohometax.org" - a US site campaigning against property tax on homes.

This is the right link for CAWHT.

Where are all the sensible and principled left activists who I know are involved in this - is this the best that can be offered politically ?

A couple of years back, when I said that we should be protesting against Labour's intention to go into coalition with FG, SP members said that it was ridiculous to protest against Labour as they were a Right Wing Party.

    What has changed ?

Was it for this that the ULA was liquidated ?

Why not ask Revenue workers not to process the tax ?

For most workers, the tax will not be more than €2.00 a week.

At the same time, we have the Courts deciding against rights to free collective bargaining, which would have a much bigger impact on workers living standards than would this tax.
    Boycott over.

It is apparently many months since Paul Murphy paid is Household Charge when he sold his apartment, months ago.
