Mary O'Rourke lashes Ursula Halligan in her upcoming book for revealing that Lenny the Liar had cancer.

""Even as we struggled with our grief, reeling from this terrible blow, TV3 chose to tell the world about Brian's cancer, in a startling 'breaking news'-style intervention by their political correspondent, Ursula Halligan.

''She broke the news, not just to the nation, but to the extended circle of Brian's family and friends."

The news was delivered with a "lack of sensitivity and finer feeling" and was very hard to bear, she writes."

    http://www.independent.ie/national-n...e-3258928.html

While O'Rourke is entitled to express her personal pain there's no doubting that Halligan's story was in the public interest.

That the finance minister had a terminal illness would be of interest at any time but in the circumstances we were in it was hugely important. It was the greatest of Cowen's many failures that he allowed Lenihan to remain in office following the diagnosis.
