The Indo campaign against PS workers bubbles along merrily today. So desperate are they to get a big number into the headline that they've looked at what they claim will be the costs for the next 60 years.

The Indo is softening us up for cuts in the free travel scheme for pensioners. There's 'rampant fraud' apparently.

If there are cuts in this scheme my gut feeling is that the rail part will bear the brunt of them.

As an OAP I find this pass useful in visiting children and keeping medical appointments.

There will be major protests if it is changed

Quinn is to bring in a law to YellowPack university staff.

That will surely push our universities up the world rankings.

Voluntary redundancy schemes have long been a tool of businesses seeking to cut headcount but when the state uses them they become 'Golden payoff's'.

Royal Bank of Scotland which pushed Irish customers of its subsidiary Ulster Bank to the bottom of the priority list during the recent IT fiasco is recruiting 150 people from Scotland to chase UB mortgage arrears.

Not a good omen for the future of Ulster Bank.

The Examiner is speculating that Gilmore will appoint either Gerald Nash or Michael McCarthy to the vacant chair of the Finance committee.

Neither is from Dublin and they're both men so I won't be rushing to the bookies.

Louth Council has voted to oppose renaming the Boyne Bridge in honour of Mary McAleese. They don't seem to have anything against Macker but just want to retain the Boyne branding.

Maybe we should have legislation to prohibit naming public infrastructure after living people.
