The government is to negotiate with the pharmaceutical industry to reduce the price of drugs here.

Negotiations on drug prices are a bit like leaving cert points stories - They're an annual phenomenon but nothing ever changes.

Papers were all the rage about CPA as they want to change it now. No wonder because their debt deal with theirpolitical masters has fallen through with no hope of rescuing it or saving it prior to December budget.

It give FG govt a political opportunity to look for other savings such as CPA to appear or make look good in their budgetary papers. Hence no debt deal means CPA would have to be torn up now or sooner before December 2012 budget and hence new CPA mark II with huge savings. The race is on now to look for alternatives in terms of savings once debt deal is gone. They should have gone for the quangos which is roughly estimated around 20bn at least.

FAS staff sending porn by email.

FAS has refused to say if staff were sacked or disciplined after it found they shared pornographic images with other public servants.

An internal audit uncovered up to 187 instances where images of a "highly inappropriate" nature were shared by email, including porn.

It revealed that staff shared the images with their colleagues and workers at the Department of Justice, HSE and four local authorities. The audit by the training agency said some of the images contained "graphic nudity, focus on genitalia or suggestive poses" and "sexual acts including foreplay and self-sex".

A very subtle bit of PS bashing in the Examiner this morning.

"Speculation that civil service planners have fixed on a property tax set at one quarter per cent of the home's value intensified this weekend."

The decision to introduce a property tax and the rate it will be levied at are matters for politicians, not the civil service. Insidious little reports like that help to let politicians off the hook while demonising the PS.
