"What can I do except appeal or shut up and bare it."

50 years ago any youngster with a Primary Cert would have spotted that error. Today it was missed by several people with degrees.

Yet another FG Oireachtas member needs the assistance of the courts to get their finances in order.

Looking forward to the Courts putting manners on Frank Fahey and Donie Cassidy's property dealings.

A judge who recently criticised women who make complaints of domestic violence only to withdraw them when the cases come to court has made a controversial threat about how he intends to deal with such cases in the future.

"Judge Seán Mac Bride said at Virginia District Court in Co Cavan he now intended to take the matter further by binding all accused people to the peace for two years in the future, rather than striking out these cases."

Binding over an innocent person sounds like a good way to see state stumping up for expensive appeals and maybe even compensation.

    Quick, before Captain Con does.

Last week Mr Shatter announced the nomination of the panel, made up of Ombudsman Emily O’Reilly, as chair, Dr Mary Keys of NUI Galway and the Mental Health Commission, Sylda Landford, chair of the Citizens Information Board, Prof Gerard Quinn of NUIG and Prof Gerry Whyte of Trinity College Dublin.
To Shatter, for any body to have independence from Government is anathema, it seems.

There are serious concerns with the way rights bodies are heading, or the where they're being pushed.

In Donegal atm but will collect some info and write something up tomorrow.

The hysteria about Quangos (hammering of) is being used as cover for government to get rid of all sorts of inconvenient bodies. Just another cost we pay for being more interested in trifles than substance.

Looks like Shatter was trying to secure jobs for those in the inner circle - the Sir Humphries and Lady Humphries.

Good result for Manning and all who supported him.

Minister is a bad loser, judging from remarks quoted

The greatest growth in the country seems to be in the scapegoat sector. Fresh on the heels of the martyrdom of Sean Quinn (blessed be his name) the Indo would have us believe that Sean Fitzpatrick is a scapegoat now.

The lowlife who sexually attacked a woman and claimed that his cholesterol medication made him do it was sentenced to 6 years with 5 and a half suspended and must pay €75k compensation.

I'm not of the hanging-and-flogging brigade but that seems very lenient. Perhaps the DPP should appeal it.

The monetary compensation aspect is cause for some concern too. It could give the appearance that those with financial means can buy their way out of gaol time.

I gather from certain ancient books that the offering of sacrificial lambs and goats has a supply side problem. Constant need for fresh supply. They don't keep well apparently.

There are more scandals to come so we may not need to go for recycling villains as scapegoats.
