Shorthall has refused to express confidence in Reilly. Given her recent sexist outburst in the Seanad we might wonder if it has more to do with him being a man than anything else.

As in the Begley case, the media are showing great concern for the feelings of another white collar jailbird:-

"Quinn's imprisonment will also be hard for his wife Karen.

"I am distraught that my husband Sean is jailed for failing to comply with a court order," she said over the weekend."

A letter writer in today's IT makes some very valid points about the consequences for the health services of further cutting pay. Unfortunately his unfamiliarity with modern idioms means many people will be guffawing so much after the opening line that they will miss them.

"Sir, – Vincent Browne has, as usual, choked the chicken by feeding it hyperbole"

I think it is a wellwritten letter. What is your problem with it?

Sean Fleming is pushing for PS workers to volunteer to subsidise public services. After the way his own government treated them like sh!te he really shouldn't expect that call to be greeted with anything other than the contempt it deserves.

Bruton: Cabinet has confidence in each other

    The property tax story says

The Cabinet has decided to give collection of the property tax next year to the Revenue Commissioners.

Ministers also today decided to cut their travel claims, to take account of personal use, but reform of local Government and abolishing town councils never even made it onto the agenda.

Members of the Cabinet and junior ministers - with the exception of the Taoiseach, Tánaiste and Justice ministers - are to cut their mileage claims by 10%.

They make their claims for using their own cars, but the cut is to reflect 'personal use' .

Does that mean they have been claiming for personal use to which they are not entitled?

Apart from the Taoiseach, Tanaiste and Justice Ministers? What is so special about Justice, btw?

In a departure from the usual situation where high profile legal cases in the US quickly degenerate into a media circus, the judge in the Colorado massacre trial has banned cameras from the court.

Gump says he's proud of our Olympians. He should take part himself - Put him in the blocks for the 100m and have Vincent Browne cough behind him and he'd likely hit the best time of any on the Irish team.

Not clever for someone with his ambitions. The media don't like anything that smacks of accountability.
