When the Beards get back from holidays next week, these guys might finally get the Union support they deserve.

Is the Jack Ronan here the same person who operates/pperated a piggery near Cashel and who sought planning to build an incinerator in 2002?
BOSSES behind a controversial incinerator plant have been slammed by the government's environmental watchdog on FOUR separate occasions.

The Ronan brothers already run a rendering factory on the same site as their proposed animal burning plant.

The EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) criticized the running of it by brothers Jack, Davis and Louis Ronan's company National By-Products.

Neighbours in Rosegreen, south Tipperary - backed by racing legend Aidan O'Brien and his friend Manchester United boss Alex Ferguson - say the fumes from the planned incinerator will poison them, their livestock and their land

They have been all over it. I think O'Connor was there on Christmas Eve.

It is an easy issue for them and very televisual.

The Echo front page this evening has a huge banner headline and photo of Vita Cortex workers:
    OPEN THE BOOKS
..which refers to a call by Ciaran Lynch TD on Vita Cortex to open their accounts to inspection.

There's a statement by Richard Bruton this evening:
Enterprise Minister Richard Bruton has urged both sides involved in the Vita Cortex dispute to engage with the State’s industrial relations machinery.

In a statement issued this evening the Minister expressed his concern at the continuing situation at the foam packaging factory in Cork, where 32 workers have been staging a sit-in since December 17.

“In the interest of achieving an early resolution in this dispute, I would encourage both parties to meet under the auspices of the State’s industrial relations machinery as soon as possible with a view to exploring ways of resolving the issues in dispute," Minister Bruton said this evening
    /snip/
"Minister Bruton understands that the Department of Social Protection, which has responsibility for the redundancy payments scheme has been in contact with the company about expediting the processing of applications under the scheme for the workers concerned," the statement said.

"The Minister confirmed that he has asked the Labour Relations Commission to be on stand-by to assist in this matter.

God man Dickie, I have no doubt the people sleeping in a factory over xmas need urging to engage.

Should be interesting to see how the government handles this. We don't want to set any nasty precedent for workers getting the due do we.

In my experience calls to open the books are usually followed by discovery that the cupboard is bare.

If that's Johnny Ronan of Treasury Holdings and REO his companies are worth hundreds of millions, or at least they were.
I'm not sure if he is related although from the same part of the country?

So there was plenty of cash to provide lump sums and pensions for two Cork Vita Cortex managers?
    Amazing
TWO senior executives of the Vita Cortex operation in Cork received severance pay in excess of the amount needed to secure agreed redundancy payments for the 32 workers engaged in a sit-in at the plant.
The two managers received a full pension as well as lump sums of €250,000 each in the last 12 months — amounts totalling €100,000 more than the company is obliged to pay to give the workers their agreed redundancy of 2.9 weeks per year of service.

The full amount needed to fund the redundancies is just over €1 million, but because the closure of the plant predates the last budget, the state will pay 60% of that amount. Since January 1, the state’s contribution to redundancy payments has been slashed to 15%.

Ah PaddyJoe you're better than that.

"The two managers received a full pension as well as lump sums of €250,000 each in the last 12 months"

That's a huge time span in the context of the current matter. It could easily refer to two people who retired in February 2011 when the business was trading normally.

It smacks of tabloid style fire stoking to boost sales.

I'd imagine that the Examiner would have a pretty good inside line to what's going on and in fact probably know more than they're saying.
We don't know all the facts because Vita Cortex have tried to muddy the waters by blaming NAMA for the fact that their employees were left without redundancy payments.
I suspect that a lot more will come about Vita Cortex and related companies over the weekend.

Reading the Irish Mail this past two days about the assets and business'es this Jack Ronan has, maybe a boycott should be organised where it will do harm to his finances and resources would not be a bad idea its disgraceful what is happening to his workers
