    Default Rosenbilt and Rosa Parkes

An Israeli woman has refused to move to the back of the bus when called on to do so by an orthodox Jewish man - an act of defiance reminiscent of that taken by Rosa Parkes, the black woman who took a similar stand against racism in the US.

    Netanyahu spoke against this.

No different to the Salafis. And there is a pub in Waterford allowed to exclude women.

Women are still not visible in many circles. Try looking at a G20 line up photo.

It's a long battle and there are steps forward and back.

In the 50s and 60s, women across North Africa were wearing western dress, short skirts and bare heads.

I wonder what that offensive term, used for a non-Jewish women, is?
Also, what's the pub in Waterford?

Shiksa or "Shikse," is a Yiddish word that has moved into American English usage, mostly in Jewish culture, and is used as a pejorative for a gentile woman.

It is meant to be extremely offensive.

The word is derived from the Hebrew term sheketz, which means "hated" (with overtones of "filth" and "subhuman" and a particularly strong connotation of "promiscuity").

Much obliged. I'll try it on herself when we next have a row.

Another of the interesting biblical legacies passed on into catholic dogma from Jewish philosophy although not much talked about by priests for obvious reasons.

At one time in catholicism women had to sit nearest the door of the church and furthest away from the altar- there was healthy internal disagreements about whether women should be allowed in churches at all- filthy creatures that they are. Women are regarded as vessels only and that is why they are regarded as uniquely susceptible to being possessed by devils. There was a reason why the possessed child in the Exorcist was a female adolescent...

The remnants of this still exist in the tradition of 'churching' women who have given birth as women are regarded as 'polluted' by childbirth until 'churched'.

Much of this is a hangover from extremist Jewish dogma in christianity.

Just thinking about hate names; they are funny out of context but seriously scary when used in a threatening situation.
For example, if I'm called a Paddy in Ballinderreen on St Pat's night, it is a joke but If I was called a Paddy in the Duke of Wellington on Nov 11 during a National Front celebration, it would be a different matter.
Calling this woman a shiksa, on a bus where many/most of the passengers are wearing their weird cult clothes and weird cult haircuts must be very intimidating, though it may seem ridiculous to us. The fact that the policeman, when called, asked the woman to move to the back of the bus shows just how serious this situation was. The growing religious intolerance in Israel is making it a mirror image of the Saudi and Bahraini regimes. I suppose it is inevitable that a state based on religion must be like this. What with the fashion for spitting on non-Jews and now this, the Israeli tourist board are going to have their work cut out.
Anyone remember the words of the Woodie Guthrie song "If you miss me at the back of the bus..."?

They are writing their own death warrant. What goes around tends to come around and Jewish people more than most should know this. It is all part of a recurring cycle down the ages and I have no doubt will end the same way as it usually does for any people choosing to invent their own hirearchy of hatred based on being 'chosen by god'.

Fanatics and zealots write their own history in the end.

For sending women to the back of the bus??? Women all over the world are excluded from more important things than bus seats. There is nothing exclusively Jewish about this.

And how are they "writing their own death warrants?" Who is going to execute them?

Women are indeed abused and mistreated in many countries but in Israel the clock is going backwards. There is a movement to remove women from the public arena and reduce them to servitude - this in a country that wants to be accepted as a modern democracy, comparable to western Europe.

If Israel wasn't a theocracy the question of mistreating on religious grounds wouldn't arise.

This is about theocracy not sexism.

This is just an insight into the malignant nastiness that comes with a philosophy (religious or political) of manifest destiny. People who subscribe to the notion that they are exclusively chosen by a god automatically see others outside their group as 'untermensch' and cannot help making enemies as they go. After a while the enemies outnumber the 'chosen'. This is a recurring historical dynamic and it always ends in disaster for the self-described 'chosen'.

This isn't exclusively confined to certain zionist groups of Jews. That is what I mean by 'signing their own death warrant'. They'll either end up destroying themselves in a war or being destroyed when they create enough enemies.

Today's news of further land grabs in the occupied territories with new forts and settlements could soon mean that a Palestinian state is no longer attainable. In that event Gaza and the West Bank, Golan and the rest would be incorporated into Greater Israel which would then have a sizable non-Jewish domestic population demanding equality under the law and this would mean an end to the Jewish state.

The white South Africans could have had their own state if they too had not been so greedy and grabbed more land than they could inhabit themselves. Even in the last days of apartheid, they could have established a viable state in the white-majority areas.

The silence from Washington and Europe is deafening - not even the usual empty rhetoric of returning to the negotiating table.

    Germany has made a statement on the announcement of a further 1,000 settler properties;

" BERLIN (AP) — A spokesman for Chancellor Angela Merkel says Germany is urging Israel to refrain from constructing new settlements in the West Bank and east Jerusalem. Georg Streiter said Monday Israel's recent announcement that it would seek contractors to build some 1,000 apartments in both areas conveys "a devastating message with regard to the current efforts to resume peace negotiations between Israelis and Palestinians."

    http://uk.news.yahoo.com/germany-isr...120612407.html

He says Germany "urgently calls on the Israeli government to refrain from inviting bids for the apartments."
