    A New Alliance For Progress

The Irish Democratic Party believes in Thomas Jefferson’s statement the government that governs best
is that, that governs least. Therefore we intend to roll back the frontiers of the state and rid business of costly legislation.

We will holdaccountable those who have committed major financial crime in regards to thebanking crisis we will minimise the losses the taxpayer has made on the bank guarantees and reform the financial regulator to ensure that this never happens again.

So many of our citizens are facing the daily struggle of paying bills, receiving intimidating letters from unlicensed repossession agents and debt collectors we will make sure that every debt recovery agency is licensed and can be held accountable.

We will lower taxes, control inflation and encourage an enterprise culture.

We hold the philosophy that taxation is a necessary evil, and we will always endeavour to cut taxes when we are able to without jeopardizing the performance of our economy.

We will have an open representative system of local democracy we will endeavour to promote low taxation, inclusion and accountability.

Local democracy will flourish; we will encourage the formation of townships Irish communities to work together to decide what is best for their towns. Elected mayors, judges, and Garda commissioners will all be
introduced to give real power to the people of Ireland.

We will abolish the Seanad as it is a pointless waste of public money getting in the way of legislative progress.

The government has been inactive on vital issues and the people of this country have never been more disenfranchised with its leaders, our three major political parties lack the political courage to take us out of this crisis.

Our National Platform & Manifesto for 2011 takes us forward and the above is just some of our pledges to the people of this country.

Our party has made moral commitments to the people of this country and if you join us then together we can create A New Alliance for Progress.

Would you describe yourself as libertarian ?

Do you have a number of members at this stage ?

I am a libertarian; the party was being formed in December 2010 I found that the Irish Liberal Party and the Irish Democratic party were merging so I contacted the IDP looking to contribute but the party seems to have run out of steam.

So I have put together our launch “A new alliance for progress” which will then be followed by our 2012 manifesto.

We don’t have members at the moment as the party is a day old but our membership is free and we are looking for contributors.

So what in your opinion was the cause of the financial crisis if not lack of regulation? And ow do you square the circle of being a libertarian and supporting the reform and continued existence of a financial regulator of some kind as evidenced in your post above?

I would hate for Ireland to become like the USA.

The Irish financial crisis steams from the 2008 global recession but has been made worse by the incompetence of the then government.

If the financial regulator had spot checks they would have found that all banks in Ireland were illegally ignoring regulation in regards to over exposure in the building sector, When a loan is being put through for equipment the loan needs to be classifed with a Standard Industrial Classification (SIC) code so that a bank does not have too much exposure in one industry.

Banking staff where told by managers to ignore this. This is just one example.

The bank guarantee scheme being another.

    Smaller government, lower taxes....

You want unbridled capitalism. Don't you think capitalism has caused enough damage?

Capitalism cant be brought to court the people who brought about this crisis can, The bankers covering up Anglos loses, the underwriters who approved directors loans can.

The United States did not get out of the great depression through turning America towards communism.

Capitalism has its failings but I dont remember people protesting low unemployment higher earnings and the ability to buy cars etc. through low interest loans during the celtic tiger.

There was a distinct lack of regulation. Your agenda is one of light regulation.

The United States did not get out of the great depression through turning America towards communism.
But remained the most unequal society in the world. Bar none.

Capitalism has its failings but I dont remember people protesting low unemployment higher earnings and the ability to buy cars etc. through low interest loans during the celtic tiger.
And because of the failure of capitalism, unemployment is rampant, many people's earnings have been slashed (if they're still employed) and many people cannot repay the loans they accessed.
Low interest, ie cheap money, drove the property bubble.

Sadly I'm afraid I don't much room for this on the landscape. We already have two parties in Government and 90% of the opposition with the same policies.
But let's not turn this into a capitalism bashing thread because it's too easy, no one ever wins and it's about a new political party rather then another Reganroundabout

A new party with an agenda.
I presume NID posted here so the agenda would be discussed

Yes, but we already know capitalism is rubbish so it might be good to see how the party is organising or something instead.
