These scumbags in the Golden Dawn never let up do they? Their infiltration of the police seems complete with anti fascist protestors being beaten by pigs and asked for their addresses and being humilated. People who have been victims of crime have been told to approach the GD and ask them for help and in return people feel obliged to make a donation to the party for their help. People who were beaten were let go on bail of €3k and charged with disturbing the peace etc.

This thread is going on anti fascist actions facebook page, spread the word...

After some TV and internet reports showing some seriously disturbing scenes of violence during the latest austerity protests, the Spanish minister for the interior Jorge Fernandez Diaz has now joined deputy PM Soraya Saenz de Santamaria in calls to "balance" the reporting of such clashes. Both claim that the reporting of violence is biased in that police violence is shown while demonstrator violence is suppressed, thereby bringing police and security into disrepute.
The proposed solution: a ban on filming or photographing police and security personal while "executing their duty". In other words, with the knowledge that pictures of riot police kicking the s**t out of demonstrator are illegal (and therefor can't be used in court?), riot police can really let rip if these 2 get it their way...

I'm assured they are being tracked down one by one.

That is going to impinge on media rights also to provide balanced coverage. When the protests were happening in Madrid recently El Pais showed the cops acting barbarically and battering protestors. Agenda wise this move suits the establishment, dont show the abuses of the cops while they act outside the remit of the law which they are charged with upholding and enforcing. The reason that there is little or no coverage of protestor violence is that there is not as much as that as that of police brutality.

So much for defending the faith and the Greek Orthodox Church.
One of the leaders of the church, Metropolitan Pavlos of Siatista of the Aghios Dimitrios church in West Macedonia has finally spoken out against Golden Dawn.

We all have to take a clear stand on the Golden Dawn issue... We have to preach the word of God, which has nothing to do with the acts committed by members of Golden Dawn. Their actions are uncivilized and have nothing to do with ancient Greek civilization nor the Gospel.
Since then, both the metropolitan as well as his church have received threats by GD members of "getting burned out" and "sorting out that communist piece of filth"
At least GD have now made it very clear that even the Church has to abide by their doctrine if it wants recognision, and, despite their claims of allegiance to the Church, not the other way around.

Ilias "the boxer" Kasidiaris, Golden Dawn elected representative and parliamentary spokes person, is pissed. Again.
In between voting on how to shaft the people of Greece, the parliament yesterday overwhelmingly voted in favour of lifting the parliamentary immunity of 3 GD MPs.
Ilias Kasidiaris, Giorgos Germenis and Panagiotis Iliopoulos are now mere mortals like ourselves and can be held accountable for their actions.
Kasidiaris is implicated in an armed robbery in 2007 while the other two are accused of willingly destroying properties of a 3rd party and impersonating police officers with the aggravated charge of knowingly involving themselves in actions reserved for appointed, legitimate police officers. These are the guys on video who went impersonating immigration officers and subsequently started trashing the wrong stalls...
So why is Illias pissed? He reckons he is the victim of "persecution". If it wasn't so serious, it would be funny. He should try his hand at stand-up comedy. He is obviously good at it.

Can such a thing be applied retrospectively? Hope it is then we can see that they are going to be facing charges hopefully and it will get the ball rolling on the collapse of teh GD...

Yes, in order to charge them with the offenses, the immunity needed to be lifted. Until that is done (or not if parliament says "Nein"), everything is on hold. They can, and will now be charged. Will it do any good? Not at all, they are probably hoping to get the maximum, for the boxer that is 3 years, for the others 2 years. To them, it's a badge of honour, and they'll wear it proudly.
these guys should be carted of to the Sahel, and left to either deal with it themselves, or rely on the locals to show them how. they might just learn a little about real life...

Very glad to report that the chairman of the European Grassroots Antiracist Movement has sent an open letter to PM Samaras demanding the immediate removal of Eleni Zaroulia from the Greek delegation to the Council of Europe’s Committee on Equality and Non-Discrimination.
A similar demand was made of the commission itself, who claim
it would be inappropriate for them to veto members put forward by sovereign governments
Wonder why they could not apply that same logic when it comes to interfering with sovereign elections?

The Greek diaspora in Germany has also written an open letter to Samaras expressing their dismay at the non action of his government against Golden Dawn and its criminality. About time some pressure is put on the government to do something about these guys.

On a brighter note, today is the return football match between Panathinakios and Lazio FC. The Greek riot police got an unexpected outing earlier today when rioting broke out involving some of the 400 Lazio fans. They got the usual Greek riot police treatment involving a serious overdose of tear gas and then a batton charge. Our guys always have a few Molotov cocktails at the ready just to delay the police long enough so they can leg it. The Italians came unprepared. A good few of them were carted of to hospital, 4 are in a serious state of repair according to a police spokesperson, those that got patched up were released from hospital and promptly arrested for disturbing the peace.
According to one police source, the riots involved a small number of Italian fascists looking to start trouble in Athens. Would this be an indication that GD is going to be tackled in a similar manner?

I knew a Greek guy in Germany, a complete spacer but dead sound. The Greek people seem to be able to adapt well, mix well, learn the language well, and integrate well, while still being proud and strong Greeks with deep down strong Greek family ties. We Irish could learn something from them. We tend, and I emphasise TEND, not to learn the language, not to integrate, and to attach ourselves with the worst aspects and attitudes of The Old Sod.

Lazio have a long history of right wing fascist leanings and are one of a number of right wing clubs in Siere A, only recently some well known players made the raised hand gesture that was reminiscent of Mussolini. In Simon Kuipers "Football Against the Enemy" he travelled around some of the most intense rivalries in Europe during the matches and experienced some unbelievable hostility. On the left there is a strong link between Panathonikos,Celtic,St Pauli and Marsaille (the latter being a team I like to keep an eye on !!). Good to see the coppers give the fascist bastards a boot up the hole.

In other news Tommy Robinson (apparently to hide his Irish as his name was originally Lennon) was arrested on passport fraud. For those who dont know Robinson is leader of the English Defence League, a notorious fascist like group against black and Muslim populations in England immigrating or even existing. Its said that he might be extradited back to the US to face charges...

Excellent article, should be compulsary reading for everybody in greece. Shame the author doesn't go into the "South African" episode of Golden Dawn No 1 and No2, who both became trusted righthand men for Eugene Terreblanche.

    There is however hope.

During the Oxi-day parade, many of the representatives of Greek youth organizations all wore the anti Nazi sign on their sleeves. All of them also, when passing the stand with all the "dignitaries" (including the President) turned their heads away from the stand instead of towards it, and they refused to give the traditional salute to the "dignitaries". Quite a few of them were also barefoot, as a protest agains austerity.
Normally speaking Oxi day is the day all Greeks pull together and celbrate their united but very costly stand against the Axis powers.
There was absolutely no sign of any Golden Dawn representatives or celbrations anywhere.
Unheard of until today were also the counter-parades saying Oxi to the goverment and its policies. That would at any other time been nothing short of blasphemy, and punished as such...It got slightly out of hand here in Iraklio when the counter-parade, about 5 times the size of the offical one, managed to get at the dignitaries before the police did. Yoghurt, sugar, eggs, water.... The officials had absolutely no idea what hit them, and had to run before it got ugly.
The mood in Greece is very tense. Putting the army on the street for purposes other than parading around the place was a bad, bad mistake. A mistake that the government is going to regret dearly.
