    Only in Greece...

The court in Veria (Northern Greece) sat today in a case invovling the complaint by a middle aged coffee shop owner regarding the trashing of his business by 8 members of Chrysi Avgi.

The plaintiff received 4 months jail, suspended for 3 years. One of the defendants got the same sentence, the other 7, who had counter sued, walked free on a technicality.

Because of how the lawyer for the coffee shop owner formulated the complaint, it required the coffee shop owner to put a deposit of €100 per complaint down, in order for the public prosecutor to hear the case. However, the lawyer failed to inform his client of this little matter, and only a single €100 "hearing fee" was deposited. The judge decided it was a case of 50-50 assault and hence,,,,

Heinz Fromm, head of the German Security Services the BFV (Bundesamt für Verfassungsschutz) resigned today under the cloud of serious allegations of collusion between the BFV and the NSU (Nationalsozialistischer Untergrund), a Nazi terror organisation suspected of murdering at least 10 Turkisch immigrants between 2000 and 2007. The police investigation into the NSU and the murders was seriously hindered last November, when officers of the BFV "accidentally" destroyed a lot of documents relating to the NSU after the police authorities investigating a newly discovered link between the NSU and the murders had requested the documents from the BFV.
Although there is no proof, there is a serious suspicion that the documents contained names of people in the NSU and were destroyed in order to prevent their identities to be revealed to the police authorities, and thus prevent their arrest and interrogation. The unanswered question of course is what is the link between the BFV and the NSU, and how high up does it go?

Good christ, this knows no boundaries does it? http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2011...ervice-scandal

One of the staff involved had been involved in a couple of murders reports the Guardian. Officers had files on the collusion but didnt do anything much about it until it was too late.

    Thanks for the info Eliphant

It was good to see the immigrant community in Pireaus stand up for themselves.

Many of the immigrants (Legal ones!) have complained about intimidation by Chrysi Avgi members who walk in to their shops and simple tell them to close up and go home, or else... Invariably, the shopkeeper is addressed as "filth" and suffers a lot of other abuse. Of course "The Brave Defenders of Greek Values" as the fascists like to call and portrait themselves always walk into a shop in a gang. Immigrants also complain that despite recognizing and identifying the bullies to the police, nothing happens. Or they get another visit after making the complaint...
The march was supported by SYRIZA and the braves of Chrysi Avgi had promised on their blog to fight "the filth" to the end. they were however nowhere to be seen, and had apparently cleared their local office just in case. Greece can only welcome this stance by the immigrants and hope there will be many more, with many more Greek people standing with them.

Its reminiscent of the issues faced by the immigrant communities in London during the riots. They were abused and hassled and stood together shoulder to shoulder to stop the looters from looting their shops. Chrysi Avgi will probably get off with some sort of warning or some other poxy sentence . Good to see the Greek people standing up for the common good of others.

We had the very sad event of the leader of Chrysi Avgi taking the speakers place in our parliament and given the constitutional right to spout his bullshit to the nation. As soon as the clown stood up, his 16 Deputies rose to show respect for "the Fuhrer".

The shame of Greece, Fascism in its Parliament

At the same time all the SYRIZA, KKE, INDEPENDENT GREEKS and DEMOCRATIC LEFT deputies left the building in protest. It highlighted the sad figure of Kouvelis, leader of Dem Left who remainded in place as the only Dem Left deputy in the house.

Kouvelis strikes a lonely, uncomfortable figure

He explained this as a "show of support for his government colleagues". Why on earth he did not tell both PASOK and ND that he was going to walk out and they would better walk with him if they wanted a government in place tomorrow remains a mystery. but he did nail his colours to the mast, and it shows how united his party is.
There are rumours abound that a law will be proposed, very much like the law in Germany, which would effecgtively ban Chrysi Avgi from operating and speaking. Given the strentht of the protest, it should not be too hard for Tsipras to muster a few extra votes from PASOK and ND to get this passed. We live in hope...

There was a lot of protest from within Merkels party that the law was an attack on free speech. A lot of MPs in Germany said that there should be no law but that they should seek to take them on and better themselves through teaching the hard right a lesson. Either way a lot of free speech activists are up in arms over a lot of laws to curb hate speech (I think these laws are a must) but there seems to be as many in support as that oppose it.

And how do you teach the "hard right" a lesson? We know here that these guys understand one language, and one language only. So, do you go around beating the crap out of them? As far as I'm concerned, with pleasure, but what does it achieve? And you do of course run the risk of getting as good as you give...
I cringe at the thought of it, but on this occasion I think Merkel hit it right, bang on. Some people simple do not have the right to open their mouth. freedom of speech is one thing, but as with all freedom, it only becomes real freedom when you know how to limit it. It is grossly offensive to hear some idiot in our Parliament refer to a large chunk of the population of this country as "Filth", over and over again. That is really stretching the the concept of "Freedom of Speech" beyond acceptable limits. Freedom of Speech should never be used as an excuse for any of this

There is a limit that can't be crossed, and all of the above are, to me anyway, examples of "Freedom of Speech" that should most definitely be curbed...

Uncontrolled immigration together with future degradation living standards of working class due taking more low skilled jobs by immigrants will guarantee future rise of far right thugs
Left wing doesn't have solution to fix economy and provide jobs for everyone, while solution proposed by anti immigrants (deport all immigrants and take all jobs back)at least understandable by most of workers.
Taking into account huge crime levels within ethnic groups,it is obvious that any attempts to limit freedom of speech will only delay inevitable

Where is this going to happen ? Are you talking about the Irish immigrants arriving in Australia and Poland ?

Left wing doesn't have solution to fix economy and provide jobs for everyone,
The right wing has accelerated the collapse of the economy, and is pushing unemployment up. The left has proposals to provide jobs for everyone, but they don't suit your preferences.

Deportion of course would not fix the economy or put everyone in work.

Taking into account the huge crime levels in government and business circles, I'm all in favour of free speech including removing the charge for FoI requests, and where necessary seizing "missing files" and putting them in the public domain.

I meant take them on through politics and through getting them voted out of the parliament but Im in agreeance with Merkel on this one. We need to fight them through fair means and while not advocating violence, foul means if they become too much but this could include hacking and other activities that while illegal morally stand up .

Even without economic problems, immigration of Asians into Australia has encouraged the racist right-wingers there.

One of the best examples of this necessary curbing was done some time ago when "WordPress" took down the Chrysi Avgi blog. That action resulted in CA not being able to find a host who would allow them to spout their crap on line for a good while. Eventually they got funding from some idiot in the USA and set up their own servers. If anybody from Anonymus or related and similar minded groups is reading this...

    Name Server: NS1.XRYSHAYGH.COM
    Name Server: NS2.XRYSHAYGH.COM

And a bit of lobbying with ENOM, the registrar, to remove the domain might just help a little as well

Right wing policies accelerated economy - there are more people in employment now than it was in labour force 12 years ago
What happened now is failure of left wing policies which were based on unsustainable incomes from property bubble

Of coarse not, like tax increases it is pure populism

Ordinary people more cares about what affect them directly rather than what newspapers and other source of propaganda say
