I am a bit surprised that this does not have a thread but a Minister for Justice spying and revealing info he alleges is correct about an opposition TD rates a thread, Shatter may have used info he gleaned from "somewhere" to attempt discredit Wallace on Prime Time. Wallace being a dunce did not understand the implications the night he was hit with this but obviously someone has pulled his chain and pointed out that a minister of justice is bound by rules and his role is not to use private Garda info to beat down opponents on Prime Time TV. Shatter is now facing a Standards in Public Office probe I hope it makes it to and through the DPP and to court.

CAHWT held its annual conference three weeks ago. I can't find any reports of the conference, not even on the CAHWT site or on Joe Higgins's site.

If anyone can help out with a link to a report, or a personal report, it would be appreciated.

The blog linked below says there was a SP led vote for CAHWT to become "political". A comment is posted by one CAHWT group disassociating themselves from the decision and opposing it.

http://bigginsblog.wordpress.com/201...-sly-backdoor/

Over 100 people attended. Was this a delegate conference, or open to all members ?

Red C Polls said that 71% intend to register. It seems probable to me that a portion of those who don't intend to register are not in a position to pay. Deliberate boycott, even before serious pressure comes on from the Revenue Commissioners, appears not likely to be more than 20%. This is very far from a mass boycott, although it is possible that numbers boycotting could increase year on year as the economy deteriorates.

http://www.socialistparty.net/househ...erty-tax-forms

Mick Bailey calls for large numbers of people to stand against Labour as CAHWT candidates. Can such a big electoral effort be justified, for a single issue campaign with limited support ?

Homeland security in the US has frozen the account of one of the largest Bitcoin traders "Dwolla"

This is not the first time the decentralised alternative cryptocurrency has come under attack. There was also the massive DDos attack on "MtGox" recently.

It's clear that the financial terrorists and governments are starting to worry that bitcoin will get real traction and if this happens on a large scale, they may lose their iron grip on the currency market.

http://mashable.com/2013/05/14/dwoll...land-security/

What is bitcoin?

For those who don't already know, Bitcoin is a crypto currency which can easily be transported and can change hands virtually (with appropriate precautions!) anonymously without incurring the large fees currently required. It has a fixed upper limit of 21 million on the total number of Bitcoins (or BTC) allowed to be in circulation, so money printing is not an option.

Bitcoin transactions are verified by a decentralised peer network of bitcoin miners, which invites comparisons with the bittorrent network. Bitcoin miners "mine" for bitcoins by running high powered computers to crunch difficult mathematical problems. Essentially trading electricity for money. While doing this, the software they are running also helps to validate bitcoin transactions across the network. The incentive they have for this activity is the "discovery" of new bitcoins, and a small fee for processing.
The European Parliament voted in February for a radical overhaul of the Common Fisheries Policy, with the European Council, which represents member states, finalising their position a few weeks later. Since then, discussions between the European Council, under the leadership of the Irish presidency of the European Union, and MEP’s have been continuing. While both institutions have backed an overhaul of the EU fisheries policy, significant differences still remained between the two instituitions on the specifics of the proposal, with countries such as Spain, France and Portugal in particular expressing concern.

Looking out the window here near work and there is scaffolding opposite. For the past five minutes I have been thoroughly entertained by two young magpies working together to harass a big jackdaw. The jackdaw would sit idly on the scaffolding while a magpie sat either side and they flew over his head continously and harried him! Must be terroritorial, never knew magpies could be like that!

Over the course of the last few days, the Department of Justice in the US has raided the offices of Associated Press looking for phone records from the last two months of incoming and outgoing calls of about twenty lines that the agency used. There is no real reason apparent for the raid but it may be linked to a story in the last few weeks that AP reported on the governent foiling a bomb attack where an IED as to be used on a flight from Yemen. The president of AP has released a statement condemning the raid and has written to the Attorney General in the US to question if such a raid is legitimiate in that it may go above and beyond what legislation allows the government to do but also may infringe on constitutional rights in disseminating and gathering news.
If women ruled the world, there would be no wars. Just a bunch of jealous countries not talking to each other

Funny as it may seem is there any truth to the issue? In World War 2, both the allies and the axis were ruled all by men. The US, UK, France, Canada et al on one side and the Axis of Germany, Italy etc on the other side. If women had run these countries would the outcome of World War 2 or any other war have been different? Before I get Tatcher and other female leaders thrown at he, a lot of leaders like Tatcher sold out their feminity to take on a male persona did they not as they were in a male dominated hierarchy? Male leadership tends to be aggressive and a display of strength, an alpha male complex dominates a lot of male lead governments. What of female leadership?

In Forbes magazine, an article discussed female leadership in the business world. A survey showed that female leadership may be a better approach as it tends to be more empathic and loyal in its dealings. Often a bond is built with others and there is that lack of aggression that carachterises male leadership (http://www.forbes.com/sites/doriecla...re-like-women/).

Feel free to discuss...

A new paper from the ERSI looks at how hard those under 45 have been hit by the recession.

Those under 45 are spending approx 20% less than they did five years ago.

What is most striking though is the statistics on youth unemployment around the country however...
