Sean Gallagher has taken the financially prudent step of abandoning the tradition of sticking posters up on every convenient lamppost.
So are posters really worth while in an election?

I love them. But the oversized ones should be banned: they act like sails in the wind and are a serious safety hazard.

I hate them - there are plenty other ways to get the message out there these days and they are not required .. .Gallagher is right

The stormy season is about to start and these things will be whistling and flapping in the wind over the weeks

In addition to this the tie raps are NOT taken down a lot of the time whatever about the rules. And end up on poles for a long time greening, fading and being unsightly

Time to end the farce of posters

Apparently it works well. Gallagher is taking a leaf out of Michael Gleeson's paper-free approach, who came very close to being elected in Kerry South in the last election.

I think its a great idea, but who has the guts to take such a leap of faith? I don't like Gallagher whatsoever, but he should be commended for making the move. Realistically, it won't go mainstream until someone actually wins with the approach, which Gallagher won't.

By not using election posters, he is getting his named mentioned anyway.
This tactic, of course, becomes problematic if everybody decides not to use them.
