Households should boycott the ESB over the treatment of a pensioner jailed for not letting the electricity company cut down her trees, campaigners said.

Teresa Treacy was sent to Mountjoy’s women’s prison more than two weeks ago for contempt of court after she broke an order ruling ESB and Eirgrid could erect pylons on her land.

The 65-year-old had painstakingly planted thousands of trees on her 150-acre site at Clonmore, three miles east of Tullamore, Co Offaly.

Supporters from all over the country have joined Ms Treacy’s friends and neighbours to block contractors felling 12,000 of her trees as she languishes in jail.

There's already a thread on this case here (http://www.politicalworld.org/showthread.php?t=9463).

Ok- this is more about the setting up of a boycott campaign, but if mods want to merge, I've no problem.

Up to you, yehbut_nobut - it can stay as a campaign thread, or go in with discussion of the case ?

Since all suppliers will be using this distribution infrastructure you'll have to boycott them all.

Nooo!! too much power - I'm freaking out !!! :)

Seriously - think a separate discussion of the pros/cons of a boycott campaign might be valid. But if it gets repetative, no prob with a merge.

@Baron. Were ESB the ones who applied to have here commited to jail?

I've moved the thread to "events and campaigns".

In great fairness Baron, I dealt with your point about giving advice to Teresa on the other thread.

I'm not one for suing for defamation and that's not really a concern. The concern is that thoughtless crap that comes from your imagination rather than from facts within your knowledge could bring a lot of unnecessary and unwanted trouble onto my doorstep. I'm not a legal professional and I have never once offered legal advice to Teresa Treacy. It would be illegal for me to do so. Furthermore, I did not speak to Teresa on the day she decided to violate the injunction against her. I most certainly did discuss the consequences of such an act, prior to this, but I didn't once advise her to do it. She felt that she had no other choice and I accepted that, and I still do. Teresa is not some wishy washy gimp who is incapable of thinking and acting on her own behalf. If she was, she'd have given up well before now.

There are at least two facebook pages running currently.

The first is run directly by the Teresa Treacy Support Group: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Teresa-Treacy/164471736970470

The second is the Petition For the Release of Teresa Treacy page: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Petition-for-the-Release-of-Teresa-Treacy/273021952722030

I'll make it easy for you Sean. You've beaten me into silence, not by the force of your argument but by the implied threat of defamation proceedings. I'm putting you on my Ignore List and I'll ask CF to delete all posts of mine that replied to you.
