In the first few days of this coming week, several county councils will meet to consider who they will back in the Presidental election.
South Dublin and Laois local authorities will meet on Monday, and Cork County and Dublin City on Tuesday to consider motions supporting Mr Norris. Cavan, Westmeath, Longford and Donegal will meet early next week over support for Ms Scallon.
Carlow, Roscommon and Waterford City will also decide, while Kilkenny will not make a decision until Wednesday.

A 'Special' meeting is evening being held in Cork.
The special meeting was requested by Independent councillor David Boyle.
While 13 councillors must normally request a special meeting, Mr Lombard — a Fine Gael official — has taken advantage of a rule allowing a mayor to push through the call.

One has to ask the question, WHY is there such a scramble at the 11th hour for all these meetings in order to nominate someone??
Council members, I imagine, are scurring about looking through their 'council rules' to see if there is some loop hole, so that a 'SPECIAL' meeting can be called.
Where were these same council members earlier in the summer? Why was it left so late??
My only conclusion is the entry of MM into the race. My God, it must have sent shock waves through the political establishment. Now, they can call 'special' meetings, they can find rules that allow them to call these special meetings for this PARTICULAR purpose.
Like MM or not (and I don't), it truly is pathetic that 'special' rules can be found to call these 'special' meetings to nominate someone who the political establishment believes will beat MM.
To use their political power, at the 11 hour, for this purpose is truly dismal.

I wonder do they claim expenses for these 'special' meetings?
Or are they being magnanimous in order to save the country.

I am not a councillor but I think in many Councils there is a flat rate for expenses irrespective of the number and location of meetings.
Obviously the meetings are to facilitate the nomination of Dana or Norris.
If councillors think this will stop another candidate being elected that is their democratic right.

Or possibly with Gods Alley Cat looking like he's going to do a Currie FG are trying to avert the humiliation by letting Dana in to generate transfers.

To be fair we shouldn't ask people to represent us at their own expense. That's a sure way to ring fence elected office for wealthy people.

Makes no difference if the wealthy are in office or pulling the strings of those who are.
We get the same policies either way
Mr Rothschild(s) put it much more eloquently than I can

I've a terrible tendency to scan posts quickly and initially missed this quote form the Rothschilds, it's very telling isn't it, reeks of capitalism and brutally honest, was it meant for our sensitive ears at the time or was it quoted in "private quarters"

I deemed it a little too predictable for me to make that point.
But I am glad someone out there has a keen eye for true hypocrisy.
We have a poster here asking for "dirt" on Michael D.
Endless posts on the Norris case.
But somehow the hypocrites deem it hypocrisy for the media to look into Marty's background.

Oh lordy lordy Kev the stories I could tell you about sheer wastage of money would make your eyes bulge, sheer stupidity with a lack of cop on, and because I spent most of my life working in the private sector, I can realise this. The motto in public sector is never ever do anything unless you are ordered. Never ever show inititive or try improve things unless you want to be shot down and be prepared to take 5 times as long to do anything as it does in the private sector, actually that's being genorous and never ever, ever look for information on your job too further help the public, that is seriously beyond your contract.

MMG has been an Army Council member of the IRA since about 1971.
Ask any child from Antrim to Kerry.
He has overseen most IRA operations for the past 40 years.
He has recanted/renounced violence.
You want specifics?
He probably forgets or does not know.
He was responsible for many mistakes....murders(in your language)
The electorate have forgiven him.
You have/will/can not.
OK.
Look for fresh dirt.:p
The people understand and have moved on.You can keep fighting the war.

sorry sinsin, call me stupid but cannot see your position on this, but will give you mine for all it's worth. I will not ever vote for a Shinner, they do not represent what I want to see in future Irish politics that's not saying that FG/FF will do either. Any group in my opiinion that is prepared to murder, maim or hurt any indivdual in pursuit of political idealism is in my opinion wrong wrong wrong and will never ever receive my vote in any form. I could go on and on about people voting for the Shinners et al but I will be polite.

I am Kev Bar.
Neither of us is the people
This sense of entitlement and moral superiority is what scares me.
Ergo my response to Marty's West Brit jibe.
The electorate have forgiven him
Says who? Show me the numbers. I see a fraction. You see a majority.
But let's throw empirical evidence out the window.
The electorate ie the people still view FG more favourably.
Does that make it right?
Look how the people viewed CJ
And a bit like CJ, would you ever get down off your horse.
NO SURRENDER
How very apt.

A genuine pacifist.:)OK.
As long as you don't vote for Labour with their torture flights in Shannon.
And by the way you carry the same passport as those baby killers from France/UK/Italy etc love bombing hospitals and schools in Libya.
I am sure you have taken your pacifist principles into account in your previous votes.:)

Are you trying to be funny?
A financially insecure individual without a network of supporters is in an impossible position.
A radicalised person with convictions and part of a network is a completely different scenario.
