Election canvassers for the SDLP have been targeted by a petrol bomb attack, the party said.

A tin filled with petrol with a lit rag hanging from it was found smoking under a car belonging to the team of activists in Coagh, Co Tyrone.

The party workers were campaigning on behalf SDLP deputy leader and Mid Ulster Assembly candidate Patsy McGlone.

They had earlier complained that posters of Mr McGlone had been removed from the village.

Mr McGlone said: "I was on my way back from a meeting with Taoiseach Enda Kenny in Dublin and called to see how Cllr Christine McFlynn's canvassing team was getting on in Coagh.
