Can't believe this hasn't got more press attention! Or maybe it has and I haven't come across it. Max Keiser is coming to town TONIGHT!
"Keiser is the founder of the hedge fund Karmabanque which seeks to profit from any decline in equity-value of companies that are susceptible to boycott from environmental groups.
Karmabanque's progress was followed monthly in the Ecologist Magazine. Its targets include Coca-Cola, McDonald's and Ryanair.
The Karmabanque hedge fund project was designed to simultaneously short-sell companies while funnelling profits from this activity into environmental and ethical-business pressure groups which further act to drive down the price. Describing the project, Keiser states "The Internet allows people, activists, from all over the world to gather, or swarm, and hit a company where it hurts most -- in their stock price."
He will be appearing in The Grand Social, 35 Lower Liffey Street, Dublin, this Wednesday at 19:30. Here's some background taken from The Grand Social website about Max Keiser:
Famed broadcaster Max Keiser comes to The Grand Social this Wednesday for a one off night of debate that is bound to strike a chord with everyone in the country. Keiser is a thorn in the establishments side, especially on economic issues and Wednesdays talk will no doubt be a furnace of fiery debate. Doors are at 7.30pm and admission is free.
Max Keiser is a film-maker, broadcaster and former broker and options trader. Keiser is the host of On the Edge, a program of news and analysis hosted by Iran's Press TV.
He also hosts Keiser Report, a financial tabloid, that broadcasts on RT (formerly Russia Today). Keiser hosted the New Year's Eve special, The Keiser's Business Guide to 2010 for BBC Radio 5 Live.
Keiser formerly hosted The Oracle with Max Keiser on BBC World News. Previously he produced and appeared regularly in the TV series People & Power on the Al-Jazeera English network. He also presents a weekly show about finance and markets on London'sResonance FM, as well as writing for The Huffington Post.
In addition to his broadcasting work, Keiser is known for his invention of "Virtual Specialist Technology" - a software system used by theHollywood Stock Exchange."

I'm sure there'll be plenty of people recording it and Keiser has his own video channel on YT. Given the gravity of the Irish situation for the Eurozone and world economy, I'd imagine he'll probably post highlights of it.

And how are they clowns? I don't agree with them on many many things, esp. on solutions to the crisis, but does being of the opinion that the debt is unpayable make them clowns? I would suggest that makes them more far-sighted and realistic than other establishment economists.

His insanity is refreshing actually. If hes mad we could use more mad people on the right and left in irish society. I only wish me own marxist lecturer was on with them. now that wouldve been a classic. but keisers right-im all in favour of the guillotine as well when a certain crime such as those we have experienced for 3 years now takes place, held in public if possible. Desmond its very telling how you always manage to answer a reply in one line and never any more than 2 or 3. it just shows some people have all the answers. 2012 and 2013 are going to be insane. Ireland is on the high road to default. If you think otherwise yer in denial.

I am not a river in Egypt. In 2012/2013 there will be a massive restructuring of all the European debt.
We should start pushing ahead now and stop being so negative about our economy and country.

AS CG said, and its not often i agree with the right wing russian, you are like the passengers in the 1st class of the titanic arguing over the dinner or the lighthouse in new york whilst the ship is sinking. Relying on others to throw ye a few bones is like a bucket to a hole in the ship. Right now its man overboard(emigration) or lifeboats(nama, the bailout, the diktat for the wealthy) or capsize. we are headed for all 3. I think you have a vested interest in Irelands continued austerity because you never present any detail or facts to your argument, something which shows why people dismiss you so quickly.

saw it. the ifsc apparently generated 600 bn euros last year. we could tax it at 1% and get 6 bn in tax! The shock doctrine was alluded to, and tis very apt in relation to our new thread on 'anger, powerlessness and apathy'.

Looks like it was just after the budget, only uploaded today I think.
He does lead things a bit when talking to people but the fact that he speaks to some 'real' people and even dares mention IFSC is commendable.

Yes very much so. We may have different politics but his humble approach as a journalist is refreshing considering our own spoofers here.

Saw Max last night. He seemed slightly pissed by the time he got on stage, at 11.30.
He has managed to take the 'economics is the new rock and roll' theme to heart, and has been borrowing some Iggy Pop moves, but it was entertaining. It was a packed house, with a fair share of panting groupies.
If anything, it shows not how great Max is, but how hungry the public are for some real Opposition. All he had to say was "Goldman Sachs are scum." and make a few jibes at Fitzpatrick, and the crowd was his. Showing Youtube viideos of himself was funny, and for 3 euros in, it was good enough value for money.

Not RTE - Kilkenomics. Just got back.
Keiser was physically off form - said he was having a liquidity crisis, and had a glass of alka seltzer brought to him on stage.
Fintan O'Toole was the most relevant imo. He declaimed that the issues were now political more so than economic - correctly saying that capitalism can no longer co-exist with democracy, after hundreds of years of being its best friend.
As well as the Greek events, he thought it mattered that Noonan said that paying the bondholders was wrong but he would do it anyway.
A lot of banter between rich traders (M. Keiser included) but very little acknowledgement that this is life and death stuff.
All were agreed that immigration - particularly illegal immigration - was great, as only the very best people survived the gruelling journey.
Vas was only asked at the last minute. He wondered why anyone would bother worrying about a place the population size of Greece, which is less than the smallest suburb of Mumbai.

Max Keiser is very entertaining, but is basically a court jester of capitalism.
His own philosophy is the dog eat dog of the market and he is very pleased with himself that he put most of his money in gold and silver five years ago and is minting it...
He has no alternative to offer.

A succinct summation, Ms Flower.
A succinct summation, Ms Flower.
And not incorrect. He's right on guillotines for the elites, the need for social justice and on paper money but has no ideas beyond basic freedoms. Its all very well to do an Iceland, but that doesn't solve inequality or poverty. These are long term issues which only planned economies can overcome. Saying communism is evil is parrot speak. It's the height of ignorance. Much like the way some posters(not u Kev) only ever reply with one lined answers. You can't end poverty with imperialism.

I have been watching him for several years, he's entertaining and seems to know what he's talking about, but I agree, he rarely posits viable solutions to our economic woes - bringing back the guillotine just doesn't cut it.
His hysterical reactionary opinions have found traction here because our own public sphere is so bereft of it.
