Yeah, it's April Fool's Day - but the joke would be on us ....

Jackie Healy-Rae has said he is considering running for President.

The retired TD for Kerry South said he is confident he could get the support for a nomination, but he has said he has not made a final decision yet.

Why not a buffoon?
I don't know how good his Irish is but surely a grasp of English would be required.

Looks like its not a April Fools day stunt. Jerry O'Sullivan of Radio Kerry was on with Matt Cooper this afternoon and made it clear that Healy Rae is considering it. He only needs the support of 20 members of the Oireachtas or four county or city councils for a nomination and that's well within reach.
Hope he goes for it just for entertainment value. Love to see a head to head debate between himself and David Norris:D

I'm sorry. He's north of 80. He'd not survive the 7 years. Got to be an April 1 special.

Dev was president into his 90s. Healy Rae is a spring chicken by comparison.

@morticia dont think our man jackie doesnt want to do a childers and serve honourably in office until his untimely passing :p presidents have died in office before. it simply means the govt takes it over. this is the first presidency election in 41 years. that says it all. I want norris as hed support referenda i think. I wont be voting as I'll be in France but I'll watch the debate that we all want to see. I s'pose the fear is the 'warped sense of irish humour' jenny kelly of today fm fears we'll all display to get him in just for the laugh. jackies got the rural vote from teh oaps in the bag.
