Posted on the site of National Public Radio (NPR), the non-commercial American radio station, is a recording made by the U.S. National Security Agency from their listening post in Istanbul. It purports to be the last word of Vladimir Komarov, angrily blaming those who sent him to space in a shoddily constructed vehicle:

There is a gruesome photograph of the Komarov's charred body and a brief review of the book Starman by Jamie Doran and Piers Bizony, to be published next month. According to the book, Komarov, who was best friends of Yuri Gargarin, did not trust the spacecraft from the beginning but agreed to go rather than have the back-up cosmonaut (Gargarin) take his place and face the danger.
