There will be a change here this time around with the news that Independent Kieran Deeney has decided not to stand. The local GP was once a poll topper and his substantial vote may help the SDLP to claim back a seat having missed out the last time with wildly over-optomistic vote management.

Expect the 3 Shinners to romp home again.

More shenanigans here; The SDLP messed up big stylee last time running 3 candidates and getting none elected.

This time they were taking no chances and have gone for just the one, Joe Byrne.

However, former MLA Eugenne McMenamin has left the party in protest and has decided to run as an independent pro-beard, anti-moustache candidate.

Thon boy has a head on him that wouldn't have looked out of place behind Arthur Scargill on a picket line. His appearance alone makes him more radical than the shinners.

BBC reporting that SDLP could lose seat to SF.

That would be remarkable as the SDLP don't have a seat to lose.

SF tallies have SF taking 4 seats. Just picked that off repeat twitters and I repeat the health warning contained therein

SF tally has

Buchanan 4483
Bresland 4257
Hussy 3585
Byrne 3147
Alliance 917
McGowan 1035
McMenamin 997
McElduff 5966
Doherty 5718
Boyle 5539
McAleer 3377

Again, I don't know the quota but it's fierce tight going on those numbers. The SDLP needs the transfers to fall their way. Byrne behind all 4 SFers on 1st count.
