It is not too surprising really that we are in such an economic mess.

SBP: Enda Kenny formally quitting his teaching job; he gets €100k severance and €30k pension. Had the job for 4 years, 35 years ago. #ge11

@wendylimerick 'Severance' (FF interpretation of SBP story) is probably initial pension lump sum. Many teachers retiring before it's taxed

Gav Reilly
@maosco Just going off FF press releases tonight, which I doubt would have been issued if he said he was giving up the payments

Shock, horror

Enda is a politician after all.

Like the rest, he is only in it for personal gain

Don't believe the hype. They are all the same

It may well be that he won't take this pension and severence but it is absolutely ridiculous that he is entitled

Ang, if you thought like them you would see nothing wrong with accruing multiple State pensions at the same time

The whole thing is sickening ... from top to bottom

How many of those employed in Polling Stations next Friday will be getting a nice few hundred € earners while holding down steady jobs

Being a failed primary school teacher in Ireland must be heaven on earth.

Disgusting...

He hasn't earned it and he shouldn't get it, either the €100k payoff or the €30k annual pension. That said there are reports that he is not taking the €100k, but he shouldn't get the pension either.

Good that people are looking beyond where the politicians want them to!

Billy Kelleher FF thoughts on Enda and pensions not disagreeing with him but trying to remove themselves from this whilst enabling this entitlement throughout 14 years of Government is also sickening.

“The revelation in the Sunday Business Post that Enda Kenny intends taking a €100,000 severance and €30,000 annual pension for a teaching job he did for only 4 years over 35 years ago raises major issues about what he has said during recent weeks.

“He has already admitting to having taken €1/4million in severance and pension while still a TD even though he has been campaigning against these payments but tonight's revelation goes much further.

“Having refused to answer questions about his teaching pension for over a week he has now admitted that he deliberately deferred it in order to get a bigger payout. It now appears that he will get paid 3 pensions - TD, minister and teacher and that he will get the teaching pension for 34 years service even though he didn't set foot in a classroom for 30 of those years.”

What do FF think of their teacher/Minister/TD's

Not defending Kenny in any way but FF are in no position to take any moral high ground

On the Goodbye Money, MeHall has stated he won't be taking the Ministerial goodbye money if re-elected so Kenny better forego the €100K as he will be re-elected .. what is sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander..

Thanks Ah Well title changed.

Enda may well give up his entitlement but in all honesty depriving someone else of a full time post for 30 years is scandalous.

MeHall has been at it for 20+ years ... a recent excuse was he didn't want the sub teacher/school to be out of a post ..

Makes for wonderful reading ... the Leaders of FF & FG paddling a similar boat

And it would continue to go on under the radar... if we didn't have the dire scenario the country now inhabits

Speaking of Micheál Martin, he seems to be in the same trade...

The Fianna Fail politician could see this €123,000 pension pot topped up by the five-and-a-half years of teaching he did at Presentation College Cork 20 years ago.

Will this affect the way anyone votes ?

as they are all the same, would it matter?

No doubt Kenny will do a Meehawl and say he is giving it to charity. Of course, a local charity to buy\ensure votes.

A bad judgement call by Inda's handlers. It would have been better either to have done this at the outset of the election campaign (when the action would have been under less scrutiny, and would have looked like a more genuine effort to 'come clean') or not to have been done at all. Now that the blueshirts are close to overall majority territory, everything that Inda and senior FGers do will be watched closely, and criticised if it looks at all dodgy.

Don't get me wrong, I have no love for the 'Connaught Cyclone' or his party, but this is the way Oireland Inc. electoralism works. Remember 'One-Party Government - No Thanks!' from 2002?

You mean something like this?

Varadkar refuses to name attendees (http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/ireland/2011/0219/1224290286853.html)

As you can see, the f*cking "Galway Tent" mentality is still very much alive in Irish politics.

Sheer hypocrisy by Kenny !!!!!!

It doesn't matter, which way the optics may go, still Kenny will recieve his pension worth E100K when he reaches at the age of sixty years old. Also he would recieve other additional pensions as well.

Fine Gael has ‘vehemently denied’ suggestions that it tried to censor an interview with party leader Enda Kenny on Newstalk Radio.

The interview, which was recorded yesterday and broadcast this morning, did not deal with Mr Kenny’s teacher’s pension.

Newstalk said this morning that Mr Kenny only agreed to the interview on the condition that there would be no questions on this issue.
