One of Ireland's finer areas if I do say so.

FG looking like getting 2 seats with P Connaughton and Cannon. Commentators saying FF's M Kitt will get a seat and Sean Canny Ind polling well so far.

Fg dreams of a treble here seem to be at an end http://www.galwaynews.ie/17904-galway-east-mcclearn-concedes-defeat

I think FG have a chance of 3 here. There are 2 strong independents who may not transfer one to another with any certainty. It's a slim chance, given that Lab have 7,000-odd votes between them and FF have almost a quota between theirs too. This could be very unpredictable.

My no1 gone in the first count

The recount has changed the result: Tom McHugh, FG is stil in the race, Tim Broderick, IND has been eliminated instead, there was two votes bewteen them before the recount.

What looked like a safe LAB seat isn't anymore. I expect Broderick's transfers to be far more volatile than McHugh's.

Keavney may have this by a whisker. McHugh has to get north of 1,400 votes more than Keaveney from the surpluses to be distributed. Too tall an order for McHugh IMO, despite the antipathy that exists among farmers for the Labour party.
