The Irish manufacturing sector continued to strengthen in the final month of 2010, despite the inclement weather, according to the latest NCB Purchasing Manufacturing Index (PMI).

The index, which measures the health of the manufacturing sector, rose for the third consecutive month to 52.2 in December, up from 51.2 the previous month – the largest jump since May. A reading over 50 indicates that the manufacturing industry is expanding.

oh weight a minute, those aren't original Bird's eye tasty burgers!

Ireland's manufacturing output declined in December, according to new data released this morning.

The NCB manufacturing PMI index remained unchanged at 48.8 last month, below the 50 mark which separates growth from contraction. However, output at Irish manufacturing firms contracted marginally in December at 49.8, compared to 51.8 in November.

Obviously they are both bul**hit, the increases for December don't even tally in both articles.

Don't worry, this happens from time to time. Even the most efficient propoganda regimes publish plan A instead of plan B the odd time, however they rarely publish plan A and plan B at the same time.

You can, however, expect the dole queue to increase by at least one in Jaunary.

I wonder if the drugs my company manufactures in India, then ship to Ireland for packaging and EU entry count as Irish manufacturing?

I'm pretty sure that they do. I notice that quite a few companies who purport to manufacture in Ireland also have financial outfits at the iFSC. I seriously wonder how much get done other than ******** doesn't want to let me say s cre wing a few bits on and putting things in boxes. It seems to be mainly about tax reliefs.

But maybe I'm getting overly suspicious ??

You're right of course. The month referred to in the second link is December 2009: the first link has the data for December 2010.
Phew, I was getting worried there. I thought for a moment we hadn't turned the corner after all:)
