The Irish Indo (http://www.independent.ie/breaking-news/national-news/esb-completes-nie-takeover-deal-2469618.html) is reporting that the ESB has concluded its acquisition of Northern Ireland Electricity (NIE) for €1.4BN.

The Irish Republic's energy giant, ESB, has completed a £1.2 billion (1.4 billion euro) deal to buy Northern Ireland Electricity (NIE).

The agreement finalises plans announced in July for the leading electricity company to take over the northern business.

Maybe if the Celtic Tiger hadn't been shot we could have achieved reunification by purchasing the North bit by bit.
