Tomorrow morning, just before dawn, there will be a full lunar eclipse just above the horizon, minutes before the solstice.
Not sure what the chances are for a clear sky, but I'll be up and watching, just in case.

Quite remarkable really - am considering doing likewise - cold and all that the snow covered garden will be at that hour ;)
Clear skies here all day/so far tonight so the odds are good

One of these days, I'll make Drombeg in Glandore, Cork for this very special day that is the Winter Solstice as it's aligned for it, tho rumour has it the ghost of a lady frequents the ancient stones there ;)

I was hoping to see it too but too much heavy cloud where I am. Shortest day of the year and the turn... what is it they say? Out of the darkness and into the light ... quite apt really for a lunar eclipse on the winter solstice.
Typically RTE mucked it up again. There were two guys playing Sé Beag Sé Mór on flutes who seemed to be the only ones showing any kind of awareness of the event. At the end, one turned to the other and said 'Sin é, mo chara.' and the other said 'Tiocfaidh ar lá.' It must have given the people in Pravda/RTE a heart attack. :)

Feck it anyway ... got up to see the Lunar Eclipse ... caught the very top of the Moon before it disappeared permanently behind the only cloud in an otherwise clear sky
The upside tho was a most stunning sunrise on this Winter Solstice day - well worth the view :)

Caught both and then went back to sleep.... very behind hand with everything now, but was worth it.

Could always shut the Forum for short periods now and again over Xmas ... and call it maintenance time, hols or just good old need a snooze after the Dinner time :D ;)
And feck it - after clouding over now (hmmm are we in for a snow hammering I wonder) so possibly will not see the sun set this Solstice day :(

Was thinking about that. The shop will stay open though, for anyone who wants to drop in to the Síbín, to try out the new laptop or android or escape the rerun of Star Wars or post Christmas dinner fighting.
