Today the head of Bord Gais John Mullins told RTE he would be happy to work for €250,000. He currently takes home a package of €394,000.
"My basic salary is just above 250 at this point in time I'm unsure whether the 250,000 is a total package cap or whether it's basic salary. I would do the job for €250,000 … I have 24 months to go and if it has to be capped it has to be capped,"

In fairness, if all our overpaid politicians, tv presenters, bankers took a €144,000 pay cut it would be a good start.

I would rather that all of them start with 100Km with no inclusions such as pensions.
Most of youse pay pensions out of your salary whereas these politicans in the dail don't pay out of it. Instead they were given as free gratis pension. So these politican's pensions should be classed as salary TOO. Hence in another words ... Salary + pensions = Real salary.
Not many of us get like that. It was only the preserve of these politicans who designed these laws and plans surrounding their pay and pensions.

It's completely mad the difference in salaries between the minimum wage and those on stratospheric levels of remuneration - did I say 'mad' ? , I meant to say 'obscene'.
Only one state employee earning a basic salary of over €250,000 is opting to take a voluntary pay cut -- and he is already the lowest paid of the bunch!
