Actually 16 is the legal age of consent in Nepal. He abused a position of trust and power towards those teenagers, but what he did wasn't strictly illegal.

Get this into your head: there are multiple different jurisdictions in the world, some which recognise certain crimes, others which don't. If anyone had sex with a child in Thailand then yes they'd be guilty of breaking Thai law but nothing could be done to them under the laws of this or any other jurisdiction bar arrest and extradition on a Thai bench warrant. It is disgraceful but that's the law for you. Anyway the ins and outs of law aren't part of this thread topic so I'll be obliged if you stick to that.

There may be another reason for Ireland not having such a law Youngdan. That law could if on the Irish statute books have been used to prosecute the many clerical paedophiles who were shifted abroad to the states and elsewhere and reoffended.

Irish law has a habit of leaving gaps where laws should be where they might affect the catholic church and its crew. So I wouldn't go assuming that this is a failing of a socialist society.

If you think thats a little paranoid its as well to remember that back in the early days of this decade a charge of malfeasance was removed quietly from the Irish statute books which could have seen a rake of Irish priests and Bishops in court over covering up and not reporting clerical sexual abuse.

The dead hand in Irish legal circles may not be a socialist or even careless one.

Even where there is the appearance of governance there is the glacial slowness of the Irish judicial system which allows plenty of time for mustering of potential defences, alibis and in the final act a statement by a politician which is deemed to 'prejudice' a case. But only after a ton of legal fees are incurred of course.

Tribunals are a substitute way of making sure politicians don't appear in court in case they get found guilty through some horrific error. They seem to need to take 10 years as a minimum and put the next generations of Irish 'barristers' sons and daughters through college. And then there's the fun of regarding them as unique legal events outside a courtroom which opens up the delicious legal possibility of injunctions, appeals to the High Court, constitutional arguments and file after expensive file. All paid for by Johnjo and Jeanie taxpayer.

The interesting lack of knowledge in the judicial system in Ireland which seems to have created the impression that a fled debtor who is now in the states or some sunny clime is untouchable by Irish justice systems as everybody knows Irish lawyers know little about extradition treaties or international remedies for pursuing said debtors. Someone send the lawyers an informative leaflet.

The pillars of the so-called Republic are rotten with people who are making money out of a continuation of old school debating clubs and filled with people who would not have a chance of reaching such a social stature in any other country.

There's a lot deliberate stupidity among the so-called professional classes in Ireland when it comes to the operation of a criminal justice system and I suspect a lot real stupidity as well.

And Lenihan and co have the cheek to refer to Ireland's international reputation. Ook bloody ook.

There may be another reason for Ireland not having such a law Youngdan. That law could if on the Irish statute books have been used to prosecute the many clerical paedophiles who were shifted abroad to the states and elsewhere and reoffended.

Irish law has a habit of leaving gaps where laws should be where they might affect the catholic church and its crew. So I wouldn't go assuming that this is a failing of a socialist society.

If you think thats a little paranoid its as well to remember that back in the early days of this decade a charge of malfeasance was removed quietly from the Irish statute books which could have seen a rake of Irish priests and Bishops in court over covering up and not reporting clerical sexual abuse.

The dead hand in Irish legal circles may not be a socialist or even careless one.

I don't claim to be a legal expert, I can't be expert in everything after all.

I believe it is a recent law and indeed a questionable law.

But this attitude of it being OK for this lads buddy to engage in activities which would get him locked up if done at home is a bit Irish. What is sauce for the goose should in this case be also sauce for the goose

Norris has recorded his eulogy to be delivered at his own funeral as well as trying out his grave for comfort. Is this the sort of person that is so infatuated with his own death we need as head of state. The country is banjaxed enough.
