Limerick City Centre these days resembles by all accounts some sort of ghost town - coupled with the odd bit of anti social behaviour going on

IBM announced to axe 190 jobs. Despite the 250 new jobs in Ballina, we're still loosing jobs at a frightening rate. Sure, we have turned the corner and weathered the storm.

Elsevier, in Shannon, have announced that they will be laying off 100 of their 108 staff over the next 2.5 years.

Elsevier are to make 100 out of their 108 staff redundant in a two-and-a-half year period from April of next year.

A spokesman for the company says it will actively work with staff to help them secure alternative employment.

Staff at Elsevier heard this on the news this morning, before the company told them.

Having worked at Elsevier (1987-1990) I can honestly say that the staff there were the nicest bunch of people you could ever come across. One of those (few!) companies where you actually felt a sense of camaraderie rather than just coming to a place so as to merely pay the bills. Those of you reading - and who have experienced 'this' - will appreciate the sentiment.
My heart goes out to those remaining (R. Beacom, G Gallagher, etc.).
Just know, folks, that even though it is a shock to the system, it's NOT the end of the world.

Sincerely,
Gerry Murray

In Shanon they are laying off the suits maybe the HSE should take note the days are numbered for the suits to go back to basics . Lets see their worth. give them 3 months to justify their wages and if not dump them . Leave frontline staff alone
