The new Cherrywood extension to the Luas opened yesterday.

Has anyone here used it?

On the subject of Luas lines the Red and Green Lines still are not linked despite it being heralded back as far as 2005 that it would occur

Although I do note the line linking project is supposed to be "in train" (pardon the pun) ;)

Well, here I am!

An hour from my house in Leopardstown to my office, door-to-door, which includes a 10/15 minute walk through town.

That's about ten minutes faster than taking the car to Balally and getting the Luas from there or about twenty or twenty-five minutes faster than walking to the old last stop in the industrial estate.

Other than the thing was jam packed with people sightseeing and bringing the kids for a ride on t'Luas. Strange behaviour, imo, but there you go.

Was it free, by any chance ? One of the Greens was tweeting something about it.

It sounds great. We live near a new bit of motorway: no longer culchies but outer suburbans, almost.

Given we will be paying for this stuff through the nose, we might as well get the most we can out of it :D

Yeah, it's free today and yesterday. Also my annual ticket (from town to Sandyford) is valid for the new line as well up until it's renewed then the cost goes up from 720 - 800 a year, which isn't too bad (that comes out before tax so I guess I'm "saving" the tax bit too).
