For decades and even centuries this was happening in a cultural sense although it was fought back to some degree by the Irish people. But now, although technically the money racket known as Anglo Irish Bank is in State ownership, it is the bank who owns the citizens, by government decree every Irish citizen residing in the 26 Counties is indebted to this bank to the tune of thousands.

I missed most of the VB interview with Lenihan but get the impression Brian held firm the whole time.

We were/are told Anglo was/is too big to fail. What were the consequences if it was allowed to fold last Christmas 12 months or even yesterday?

Are the bondholders still annonymous? And if so, why?

We are told Anglo and Irish Nationwide have to be propped up to save the Irish banking sector, yet hardly anyone I know knows anyone with any dealings with either institution. Why are those two putrid banks so important to the Irish people? This is never explained and it's headwrecking beyond belief!!

I think James Connolly explained it best:

If you remove the English army tomorrow and hoist the green flag over Dublin Castle, unless you set about the organization of the Socialist Republic your efforts would be in vain. England would still rule you. She would rule you through her capitalists, through her landlords, through her financiers, through the whole array of commercial and individualist institutions she has planted in this country and watered with the tears of our mothers and the blood of our martyrs.

And how correct he was. The only thing I would say is that rule by capitalists, Irish or English has the same outcome.

Cathasaigh, why did you change your avatar from a good guy to......him?

Costello was a symbol of hope and the other is a symbol of reality. Costello shot down in the street and the other downs shots in the Dáil. Time to face the ugliness of the now rather than mourn the lost hope of the past.

Yep, wise words. Easy to see their relevance today. Ironic that this week also had TG4 showing a documentary on Connolly and then ya have the goons in Dáil 26 Contae Éireann thinking that they are somehow carrying on the work that Connolly and others started.
