But in the long run is it going to make any difference to the government we have.

Its a bit like the products on supermarket shelves that are branded 'new' and 'improved'

Basically the ingredients remain unchanged but the packaging has been tarted up.:(

Well, it may give them a bit more time at the helm, unfortunately. Cowen is tainted beyond repair, so a new face could buy them some time.

In a statement released exclusively to Reuters on Thursday, Walton said he and his wife felt compelled to contact Brian Cowen after details of the skit appeared in newspapers and television reports.

"From what I have heard and read so far the stories are of concern to myself, my wife and also my children as they have seen reports on 'You Tube'," Walton said in a statement.

"As a result, we felt the best thing at this point was to write to An Taoiseach (the prime minister) ourselves to get more details and the exact context of the various stories."
The statement said Walton, who holed the winning putt in the 1995 Ryder Cup, felt "anger" at this week's events.

Walton's letter will heap further pressure on Cowen who was forced to apologize on Wednesday for performing badly on a morning radio interview just hours after he finished partying at his parliamentary party's annual conference.
I''m not sure why Reuters Canada had this story first. I wonder does Walton live over there now?

Yup .... basically you have the Prime Minister of a State using another person in an impromptu stand up charade to the laughter of others

Not good at all whatever way you dress it up - in fact it's despicable and downright appalling ... and Walton is quite right to be upset about it - so would I be if it were me

And if Mr Walton does indeed have the condition known as dysphonia as has been suggested this is what that is ... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dysphonia

Cowen was likely not to know of this condition, but he certainly knew that Mr. Walton's voice sounded "different" by virtue of using him in the skit in the first place - and that in itself was wrong over and above the dysphonia thing

Oh, Walton was a member of the European Ryder Cup winning team of 1995 (in fact he was the hero winning the penultimate game in the singles on Sunday), he was on an Irish Dunhill Cup winning team, has won 3 Euro Tour Events and 4 Irish PGAs ...

Lordy, someone pass the Powers. That was Horrible viewing tonight. Nothing to do with the guests but the message was Depressing. A possible €65 Billion final tab for all this. The Panel were United in their belief that our Government just dont know what they are doing. They quite adamant on that and repeated it on a few occasions, McWilliams going as far as to state that they didnt know how to manage the country when things were Booming.

One small glimmer was that they still believe its not too late to hand these Skips over to their Bondholders and Investors, that we can still avoid an Apocalypse. If only it were anyone else other than FF in power....their Incompetence wont allow them to alter course.

I havent been this dispirited in a while. The Horror that was spelled out tonight. We are becoming a Debt-repayment machine. And the country will go to Hell in the meantime. And still, 24% Browne reported from the Poll will vote for FF again. What a nightmare.

- He was many times more composed in that Interview than he was during his last appearance on VB. He has clearly gown into his role and is probably FFs secret weapon. Should FF decide they want to win the next Election, they will put him Front and Center of their Campaign. He is a Statesman compared to Cowen.

Also, the spoke on two occasions about restoring AIB to its Former Position and its Rightful Position. Does a Private Enterprise have a "Rightful Position"? We have come to the aid of AIB every decade since its formation. If Lenihan believes they are a Golden Calf, how many more times will they compel us to rescue them from their cosseted position?

I'd say it appeals to Pat R's inner Stick. He'd have desperate nostalgia for those Stalinist tanks crossing the border and peremptorily crushing all opposition to the local satrap. I think that Pat is maybe leaving open the possibility of an Fianna Fail cuddle

Rabbitte has, or at least had an almost pathological hatred of FF and SF. I can't see him being up for a cuddle.

Brian Lucey, Peter Matthews, Constantin and friends should be amongst the first people that any new Governmnt should talk to.

They have gone out on a limb to try and show us where it has all gone wrong and have also provided solutions.

Peter Matthews was again proven right with his figures for AIB yet not so much as a whimper from our Government on that.

matthews might have credibility to some-but to me he has a vested interest in Ireland being charged sky high interest rates on it's debt-he is the chief of goldman saachs..earth to mod.:)

;)Apjp, think you might be confusing Peter Matthews with Peter Sutherland there...although they both do a nifty line in expensive looking banking apparel.

Same tax take as 2003 - 40% higher PS wage bill. Does not compute.

Lucey such a harbinger of doom. Matthews makes same points but with padded mallet. You definitely catch more flies with honey Brian.
