Having around ten years experience dealing with the NIHRC I have found it to be more hype than good. A complete quango for a bunch of bored middle class house wives (of whatever gender).

The last category I would ever place Monica McWilliams in is that of 'bored middle-class housewife' However I have no knowledge of how the NIHRC has operated so I am off to read your blog on the matter.

I have known Monica personally for about 16 years and would have held her in highest regard as she knows --the NIHRC has been her undoing.

Sorry to learn of your difficult experience with NIHRC. I admired and enjoyed Monica a lot when I knew her as an academic way back.

I did too. However, as I tried to convince her she is not the NIHRC and should not have spent all her energy trying to flog a dead horse. The NIHRC, as far as I am aware, did not support a single human righst case.
Contrary to common belief the NIHRC did not fund any cases but made representations to the Legal Aid Board asking that it fund whatever case. That being the case why not have aspecial task force within legal aid to consider exceptional cases rather than the farce of a human rights commission acting as middle man?

It was a load of bollocks anyway as it never dealt with the fundamental human right issue at the core of the 6 counties situation; denial of sovereignty and justice. Brits out not Brit quangoes.
