Saudi judge considers paralysis punishment

A SAUDI court may ask doctors to deliberately sever a criminal's spinal cord as a gruesome punishment for leaving another man crippled. The court, in the northwestern province of Tabuk, has apparently sought medical advice on whether it is possible to surgically paralyse the defendant, who has not been named.
In Saudi Arabia, the criminal justice system has been known to dish out barbaric sentences in accordance with the ancient Babylonian code of Hammurabi, which advocates "an eye for an eye".

Meanwhile in Iran Ameneh Bahrami hopes Majid Mohavedi will be deliberately and slowly blinded by having sulphuric acid dropped into his eyes. His crime: In 2004, he threw the same acid in Ms. Bahrami’s face, blinding the 24-year-old electronics graduate. But all is not well with Iranian law as it applies to women victims. Ameneh Bahrami said that under Iranian law, she is entitled to blind him in ONLY ONE EYE, unless she pays €20,000 ($25,110), because in Iran women are not considered equal to men.
"They have told us that my two eyes are equal to one of his because in my country each man is worth two women. They are not the same,". After undergoing treatment in Barcelona, Bahrami recovered 40 percent vision in one eye but the doctors were not been able to prevent her from going totally blind.
