I can't watch Vincent Browne's show lately. I keep forgetting he's on holidays and flick on at the usual time only to be disapointed.
Christ, did anybody see the show last week that dealt with celebrity? I was horrified.

Yes, very sad. Only watched it with half an eye. Have you any theory to account for quite how bad the stand-ins have been ?

FF didn't like him at all because of his probing at angles. They were delighted when he had to close down his beloved Magill magazine. They were celebrating with a snigger and a pint!!:D

Aside from any kind of partisanship I notice that the show loses a lot of zing when he's not around. Tonight Sam Smyth had three good media performers in Alex White, and...ehh FF TD from Meath or Norf Dublin...Thomas...whass his name and yer man who is a really sharp up and coming FG rebel....and I couldn't be bothered flicking on the sound because I knew it was boring....
Browne would have thrown in a hand grenade and danced on one of their heads to get them fired up::)

Sarah Carey is there next week. I wonder is there some kind of filter to cut TV3 for the month of August?

Thought it was funny tonight when Sam Smyth mistakenly introduced the FF & FG panelists as both being FG TD's & then proceeded into a discussion on what are the differences between FF & FG:D

Sarah Carey next week, she's probably been the best of a bad bunch.

Are they all getting another crack at it, hopefully not, the less of Kevin Myers & his loud apparel the better:)

Ideas??? Good knowledge of political issues, coherent questions pointed at them, ability to stop the guest's waffle and draw out the answers that any presenter would want, sense of humour at times to prevent the show being bored at.

RTE gets much more from the public than TV3 via licences. At least he asks questions, not like the puppets on RTE, they have the bloated salaries. He, at least, earns his.

Have really missed Vincent, the odd thing was that I thought some of the people they had in for him would be good presenters and that wasn't the case.

Isn't Charlie Bird supposed to be doing a similar show on RTE?

Its the best of a bad lot when it comes to political shows and VB does provide the best "entertainment" I have more or less switched it off since VB went on his holliers. BBC Radio 4 and 7 are perfect for the cruse to the zzzzzzz.

Re-runs of Dads army on BBC 7 is a tonic for the VB slot. Good old Captain Mainwaring.

Those who sit in for Vincent are threading on rather thin ice, unlike Vincent - who is more or less forgiven the very next day, should he cross a line (and where he's quite good at, which is the why many like to watch his show) - they have to be a bit more careful. after all, they want to be invited to Vincent's show in the future. :)

That was kind of my point. The debate on a solution to our current situation is woefully narrow and really lacks imagination.

where are all the wonderful girls and boys who have done degrees in communication and media? The "talent pool" isn't glittering, is it? Scrabbling for points to get in to these courses, and for what? I don't know if you saw the Rose of Tralee last evening +1 but it was absolultely hilarious (and I don't mean that in a good way). Gurdgiev and A. N. other are saying another 7 billion will have to go into Allied Irish Bank.."hoping to get the money back at some time ...if it returns to health".

Elaine Byrne was on the panel as well.

None of them were sure enough to call it. I posted a thread here about it at the time.

It struck me particularly forcibly that at least one of them had been voting through billions in bailouts without even knowing for sure what a billion was.

Would that they had been right and it was "only" 100 million.

I have the distinct feeling that Cowen and Lenihan have no more grasp of the enormity of what they are doing than the lads on the panel.
