Former Greens Councillor Chris O'Leary has joined SF in Cork. Apparently, PBPA had considered him to be as good as recruited during talks they held on the issue of affiliation to them and standing for them in the next general election. Coming in the wake of the stillborn negotiations with Séamus Healy in Tipp South, there have to be serious question marks over their ability to expand in the next while.

This leaves PBPA back to square one. Four SWP councillors plus Joan Collins with little prospect of other serious forces joining its ranks.

Would this have anything to do with the "drop the ball" stop-start leadership given over the Dail demonstrations and/or disquiet over failure to liaise with other left groups over a Dublin mayoral candidate ?

I'm not sure. I think O'Leary has family connections to PSF, which may explain his adherence to them. Whatever the case, PBPA had declared that he was as good as joined and that he'd be bringing 30 activists with him into the alliance, which would have been a great strengthener for them. Their strategy has come falling down around their ears in recent times it would seem: They were apparently in negotiations with Vincent Browne too but from what I understand those have broken down as well.
