So who is the culprit?:D
On 4 June, a Twitter account masquerading as one belonging to The Irish Times editor Geraldine Kennedy appeared online, and the newspaper's Tara Street HQ has since been rife with speculation as to who set it up.
It is believed that someone from inside The Irish Times, or as one journalist put it "someone with a death wish", created the Twitter page to take pot shots at their editor. The username Madam_Editor under the pseudonym 'Gezza Kennedy' has been tweeting almost live about daily events at the newspaper from the point of view of Kennedy, with a satirical and unflattering slant
Madam_Editor began tweeting 10 days ago, with her second tweet declaring, "I do like Fridays. No sign of Fintan today, which makes life that little bit more bearable. Also, I have a skinny latte" and quickly began to clock up online fans, or as Madam_Editor put it, "My The Twitter followers are flooding in now. It's like the opposite to what happened to sales after I took over. Encouraging development

I thought about installing an Irish Times "diary room". Then I realised that Fintan would just monopolise it with boring monologues
So who is the culprit?:D

God knows, but I'd buy them a skinny latte. Belter.

Fintan has sent me over his column for this week. The last time I felt so ill was listening to Patricia McKenna post the Lisbon catastrophe.

I remember once an old man from Ballywhatever in Cavan or some such place accosted me on the street to talk GAA. He had appalling diction.

Trying to decide who to send to Derry this week to cover Bloody Sunday. As punishment. I'm thinking @harrymcgee. And Fintan.
Whoohoo:)

I particularly like
" I remember once an old man from Ballywhatever in Cavan or some such place accosted me on the street to talk GAA. He had appalling diction. "
What tweets did he/she make that the Irish Times believed it was internal?
Which extra 'juicey bits' could potentially uncover this imposter?
Whoohoo:)
Tis a good story, but anyone that finds bloody sunday funny is a w@nker.

Another couple of goodies:
Also, I am reading Miriam Lord's week for tomorrow. She drank so much gin writing it that she's managed to slur her typing. There's a first.

Paddy wants to produce yet another editorial on the plight of the Gazans. I'd sooner watch him eat a vat of sausages.

John Waters, meanwhile, wants to write about how women who refuse to watch the world cup with their husbands are harpies. I need a kit-kat.

It's Madam's attitude that is being satirised. You could easily imagine her thinking that way or any newseditor in Dublin for that matter.

Well aware of that. Great prankster but I fail to see why bloody sunday should be brought up. I feel it's in bad taste.
Are we that short of calamities in Ireland that the shooting of 27 people is needed for a laugh ?

Aye, but it's 'her' dismissal of it that's funny.
Is Partridge not funny here?

Point taken (knowing the video from memory)
The week the saville inquiry is coming out is tastless and sensationalist in my book.
I wonder would the prankster enjoy me pissing on it's mothers grave as she is being buried ? Just as a joke like and drumming up a bit of publicity.

There is no depths of bad taste to which Madam would not sink. Spouse abuse.
Hard to enjoy one's Saturday off when one has to virtually beat one's husband with a stick just to get him to do the hoovering.
I'm tickled that both Madam_Editor and sendBoyle follow me on The Twitter.:p

Yes, the best Irish comedy creation since Father Ted. And the fact that the real Madam seems to take it seriously makes it even more comic.

It's certainly worth a bookmark. Strange that she hasn't made a complaint to Twitter or that they haven't taken it down. Maybe because the account is under the name Geezer and the tone satirical? Did various politicians not succeed in having them stopped. A non-naked Sammy Wilson springs to mind.

I wonder was the plug pulled or did the originator decide that it was time to stop as the sniffer dogs were getting closer?

i see this thread but cant read it is it the Britishisms in the thread title? Haughey had Madam as a tout why do people whimper about her so much? I think someone like Richard Waghorne at the "MI6 Irish Mail " newspaper deserves more scrutiny than Madam who is an open book really

Kennedy is surely one of the most condescending and paternalistic editors of any Irish newspaper ever seen? She has gone into print declaring that it is the job of the Irish Times 'to lead and shape' public opinion. Not to report news impartially, note. In the same article of course homage was paid to all the usual journalistic nostrums about 'balance' etc. But you only have to read the paper for five minutes to realise that editorially it is the leading and shaping part that interests Kennedy most of all. It is massively weighted in favour of the most elite of our elite establishments. Not surprising from a former PD, really. Even Fintan O' Toole, one of the paper's few actual gestures in the direction of an alternative perspective has said that the paper's reputation for being left-leaning is constantly overstated (http://www.mediabite.org/article_The-Corporate-Media---Part-1_474268952.html). He says people have confused its challenges to the establishment on politically neutral issues like divorce with being left leaning. This has been disastrous for the left - that the supposedly great icon of 'balanced journalism' barely scratches the surface of its true contribution and significance to Irish political life and yet is widely believed to be doing the opposite. O' Toole himself is kind of untouchable, but there have been a few leftie casualties on Kennedy's watch. This satire was brilliant - desperately needed and long overdue.

Both deserve scrutiny, but Geeza was just pure observational hilarity in these dark days.
The funniest thing is that she is not actually from Dublin or the Pale.

Back, and on form -
Passed a beggar on the street as I drove home. Using the IT as a roof. Who says newspapers have no future?
He was seeking alms. I considered stopping to hand over 50c, but then I thought, ''Geraldine, you've given him a home''.
