Members of the assembly have voted in support of a motion to devolve policing and justice powers to Northern Ireland.

Policing and justice powers will now be devolved on 12 April.

---------------------------------

It seems that fears that certain snowmen may vote against Devolution came to nowt, Sinn Fein can breath a sigh of relief, but will various Nationalist residents committees now be holding theirs as we wait for the legislation regarding parading to be revealed?

The DUP have certainly changed their tune following the Hillsborough Agreement, why so?

Shouldnīt that be "some policing and justice powers"?
Home Rule under British Rule kinda scenario.
Tha lack of interest in this issue, going by other forums points to a general belief that it will change little in the long run, and is purely cosmetic.
I donīt see any tricolour waving cavalcades tearing down the Falls this time
Window dressing for the British presence.

Can we now raise the fine for illegal parking ?? Quite a coup for Ford.

Thank God for the devolution of Policing and Justice.

Maybe it will put an end to the incorrectly wheeled, transport related analogies that the politicians and commentators seemed to think were obligatry when discussing it.

SF needed this, and the prospect of not getting it made a massive issue of a non issue.
Who are the SF electorate and why are they so easy mollified with token gestures such as this?

Have SF Republicans gone Nationalist or have SDLP voters gone pseudo 'Republican'?

Was it worth sacrificing the Robinson's marriage for this ?

He didn't do to badly out of it, maybe even gained in the form of public sympathy

Irisgate was news to us, but not him

Do you think the brits care ??? He's nothing but cannon fodder and the sooner unionists realise this the better.

I'm guessing SF are picking up younger/new voters rather than the old guard.

The decision to reintroduce British troops onto Irish streets is the domain of the Chief Constable alone, who is "independent" (though he takes advice from MI5).
No one in Stormont can do a stuff about it.
The Police Ombudsman will be formally appointed by H.M The Queen.
Stormont officials are there simply to rubber stamp British policies and tactics.
This is the Ulsterisation the British have yearned for decades.

Interesting point there Moss. Do you think then that the new younger voters, have been hoodwinked into believing, that the PIRA's fight was for equality and not for the end of British Rule?

I think the Brits trashed Robinson because he got off message - and he knew it.

That seems to me to be a far more realistic reason for his traumatised appearance than anything to do with Iris (and he had known about for more than 6 months).

The army psychologist who stage-managed this thing is an interesting piece of work.

I saw Robinson speaking on UTV after the Vote was passed, he is a very unhealthy shade of grey, and looks a shadow of his former self. As you say Irisgate was not news to him, but he is being haunted by something

Whatever the problem, I wouldn't advise that he consults the psychologist.
