View Full Version : RTE considering giving money to Gerry Ryans family.

Well well well. Seems Gerrys family are in need of a few quid and good old RTE are looking onto helping them out.
So, Gerry must not have had a pension. For a man who used to get a reported €500k a year from RTE to die without making a provision for his offspring is very shocking. How the hell he did not even have insurance against such an early death is also worrying. Most of the rest of us have some sort of life insurance policies. Seeing as Gerry would have worked through his own limited company his accountant must have been completely useless as its something he should have done.
Why must we pay for this?
If a ordinary worker on €30k a year dies with no pension, does their employer throw the family a few quid?
Whats so special about Gerry Ryan? Is it that he was a very vocal supporter of the current FF junta?
Time to stop paying the license fee if you do.

The time to stop paying that was when they let the (low)Class Act off the hook.

I've never paid it, and never will. I'll go to jail before I pay.

If he had been an Employee of RTE I assume there would have been an insurance payment for his family.

He was not an employee, like all the big fish over there he worked through his own limited company.
Ah Well

Let's put it like this ...
If you had your own Company, died and had no Life Assurance provisions or Pension plan in place would you get a bailout from someone else?
Answer is no
So why should this be any different?

You dont pay tax either do you?
Well we are a tiny country...The fact is that the same service could not be provided without the TV lisence.

You are incorrect yet again. RTE is overstaffed and produces loads of dross. The TV license revenue is used as an subsidy and prevents the likes of TV3 some competing properly.

As usual. there is the typical Irish rip off here.
RTE produce rubbish low budget TV. They benefit from advertising revenue as well as the revenue from license fee's. You pay or get screwed in court. Gun to the head entertainment.
I was quoted €30.000 EX VAT for 40 advert spots, I had no control over when they would air my advertisement. I was met by a snooty "wan" who kept me waiting for ten minutes, she made no apology or an offer of a cup of tea or coffee yet was expecting me to fork out 30K ex vat for this crap?
" Oh, you don't have an advertisement either do you?"
Pardon me?
"Well in fact I do have a TV ad, a thirty second ad which cost a lot more to produce than your annual salary". The brat thought I was some kind of tourist. I told her to stuff herself, RTE and her nasty attitude.
An post collect the license fee for RTE. So what in god's name have they to do with broadcasting?
This is just another example of the usual "mafia style" manner in which the state conducts business in this kip nation. Like road tax and everything else. Ireland is one huge con job, structured by the state and politicians for the state and politicians.

How is it that TG4 can produce hours of good television and 1 and 2 virtually none ?

Yes. There is much better viewing on TG4.
I suspect it is due to the fact that they are distanced from the usual boring old farts in Montrose who incesantly massage their own ego's.
What is the idea of interviewing some overly countrified GAA bogman about his broadcasting career with the ONE broadcaster. They seem to interview each other fairly often, praising one another on the merits of their acheivments, i.e. working for the one national broadcaster which is controlled by the state. It is the stuff of RADIO MOSCOW. They love themselves in RTE but I guess they have to as no one else does. And please will someone take Joe Duffy and Derek "Money" off the air? Boring, bloody boring.

Stealing is choosing to take/use a product or service and not paying for it.
RTE is forced upon us.
Don't give me the "you don't have to have a television" line either. I own a frying pan. I don't pay a licence fee to Denny or Galtee.
I have a TV. I connect Sky+ box, a DVD player, video recorder, a playstation 2, a Wii, a camcorder and a laptop to it. I didn't buy my TV for RTE. I never even asked for RTE and, given the choice, I would choose not to have it it.
The TV licence is nothing less than a protection racket.

Service? Is that what it is called?
What service? X factor? Ireland has talent or some such crap?
Take this evening for example. Saturday evening viewing on RTE is deplorable. It is designed to drive you out to the pub so you can throw more money (Tax on alcohol) to be wasted at the useless fools who have made this country what it is today.

Dont be surprised if a sort of ex gratia payment is made. Ryan was after all, they will say, a national treasure. Surprise they did not give him a state funeral

Classic!
There was a case in England where a tv license case was thrown out as the tv could not pick up BBC.
TV3 should be paid to do six one and scrap the rest.
Maybe throw TG4 and Radio one a few quid.
Maybe.
RTE are appallingly arrogant and disconnected.
They spend half their time attacking real ps workers that actually pay the pension levy.
Here is a tip, its not 1986, I don't need RTE to watch **** US/UK/OZ made programs. And I dont need 2FM to hear "pop".
Where will you see neighbours though ??!!
