Is Bertie admitting that the Media run the country ?

FORMER taoiseach Bertie Ahern admitted the abolition of property taxes under his government contributed to the housing bubble.

On the second anniversary of his dramatic resignation from office, Mr Ahern said if he "had one regret" it was getting rid of the Residential Property Tax in 1997 following a promise to do so in his first general election as leader of Fianna Fáil.

"That was a mistake," he said, but rather than accepting responsibility he laid the blame on "media and political pressure" to get rid of the tax.

So, it had nothing to do with joining the Euro, allowing the mainland to set interests rates that suited it, but not us.
It had nothing to do with the rerun of the Nice treaty and being one of the first EU countries to give hundreds of millions of Eastern Europeans unrestricted access to Ireland, causing our population to soar in a very short space of time.
It had nothing to do with allowing banks to give 120% mortgages and the non existent financial regulation, in general.
And it had nothing to do with ignoring every economist for years who told you that the situation was unsustainable and wondering why they didn't just go and commit suicide.
Muppet.

The sad fact is that the great unwashed actually believe this tripe. Not alone that but they force themselves to do so and then justify this with notions that "the other crowd are worse" or that FF are "the best of a bad lot"

Sometimes the deluded masses deserve what is coming to them. They take it all lying down and have a decent topic for the rant in the pub.

"media and political pressure" to...

Says a ***** load about he's leader ship. That sentence could be ended with all sorts of Bertie's "mistakes".

I thought his "One Regret" was not Building that blasted Stadium he wanted to put his name to, the Bertie Bowl. Looks like he is compiling a list of regrets.
I wonder what position "Scuttling the Country for a Decade" will occupy.
