Just a thread for people to post stuff they see in the papers each Sunday...
One of the Sunday Tribune's leading story is the 58% pay rise by the Moriarty Tribunal Lawyers. 13 years these lawyers have worked on this Tribunal and hired Colm McCarthy of An Bord Snip fame back in 2001 to argue their case for getting a 58% pay increase while threatening resignations if they did not do it. Senior Council. Slap bang in the middle of the Celtic tiger senior Counsels working on this tribunal were taking home €2,500 a day, while Junior Counsel were taking home €1,500. A simple researcher saw their pay increase to €600.
Ken Foxe - (who I gather is busy examining St Patrick's day travel details) carries a small piece on Tom O'Higgins. For those of us who remember who Tom O'Higgins was - He was the political expenses watchdog who resigned from office at the height of the JoD expenses row. Sadly O'Higgins didn't speak at the time - but last week he has decided to open his mouth and was interviewed by Accountancy Ireland where he wrote - "There is widespread anger about abuses of expenses by management and board members in some state bodies and government - including those by Ministers" - He goes on to be critical of JoD for his slowness in change and also expressed concerned that reason changes by Brian Lenihan have alot of aspects of the old system still in place...

I suggest that anyone who paid over the odds for one of his gerry-built ( gerry- built ! geddit ?) cubbyholes march right up to his place in D4 and demand their money back.
On second thoughts...

It is too, this is what he had to say about other property developers;
“Most other big property developers turn their noses so far up at me, they could be used as flag-poles. I’ve no time for them either. They are arrogant, egotistical and anaemic. I’ve far more respect for street sweepers, the bar-men in my local, indeed anybody, than I have for most property developers.”

I've "stuck" the thread - never very sure what that means....and will change the OP title. All I need now is some Sunday Papers....
I think stickie means 'touting pretendy marxist scum'....no wait....it just keeps the thread at the top of the section.
Cheers. I think it's a top thread. And recyclable.

-According to the Sindo: CARDINAL Sean Brady's archdiocese has spent more on legal fees than on compensating victims of sex abuse by priests. More than €600,000 has been paid to lawyers defending the Archdiocese of Armagh in 10 civil actions while victims shared compensation payouts totalling €562,000.

I wonder what a lawyer who was abused would get !?!
Is Brady not gone yet ? Thought the Rat wanted rid of him ?

I'm told there's a headline about 50 FF Dissidents... Anyone got this ?
I have a simple answer to one of those problems, scrap FAS and give the money in the form of education tokens to the unemployed. The private sector or universities will be delighted to train them. That is a stroke of pen decision.

I think the problem is that the private sector isn't employing anyone to be educated. The tokens they'd want is for their existing staff not someone they'd have to start from scratch

Well if you are on the Dole and someone hands you a 5K token for education you could do a degree or some other course that appeals to you. I dare say you are better able to pick and source a good course than some idiot in FAS.
They spent 900K per person on some courses in FAS without getting them jobs. 900K!
FFS just give the people with no jobs the money to retrain themselves, if they are worth employing they will figure out what to do with it. Anyone in FAS that is running a worthwhile course will thrive on the business they get so they have nothing to worry about.
FAS is a scam.

FAS is a scam.
FAS is an organised FFraud. I know of one private operator operating courses for them that gets paid a lot of money for nothing.
