A woman aged 53 ended her life by walking in front of a truck 9 days ago in the U.K. She left notes behind blaming the Government as she had lost £80.00 a month housing subsidy as penalty for having a spare bedroom after her daughter moved out.

An unbelievably cruel "spare bedroom" tax that hits older people on lower incomes very hard. There are other posts here on the tax, but it should have its own thread.

The Tories don't care, as far as they are concerned tightening the belts on the lesser well off is in their nature.

People have died of hunger in the U.K. Fewer mouths to feed. :(

People going hungry and getting into rent arrears over the bedroom tax - and there is no demand for many of the larger houses when they are vacated.

Unfortunately Cass, by the very nature in the way that this is viewed, it will act as a further divisive influence within the left, rather than act as a catalyst for the easement of suffering. Like the property tax here, it will serve to induce the left into fighting anti-taxation policies, rather than trusting in the intelligence in those they presume to teach, and calling it for what it is, a symptom of the parasitic upper classes and their pets. It is not the illness and seeking a cure for it is an extreme act of redundancy that serves the normalisation of blatant fascism more. A classic trojan horse tactic that keeps the malcontents scattered. Ironic that it's probably not deliberate...

Yep. And, what is worse, there seems to be a cadre of the better off over there who seem to positively enjoy targeting the disadvantaged. One of the more positive things about the Church legacy here is that the pols actually have to pretend to be compassionate a little bit harder. I'd guess FG is actually practically well left of the UK Labour Party, never mind the Tories.
