I'm not surprised to read this. Son used to have an fierce predilection for Monster and often said his heart beat was too fast afterwards. Filthy bloody stuff. Awful stink from it too. Finally persuaded him to stop buying it.

Five people have died after drinking the Monster brand drinks, according to a report Monday October 22, 2012 from the New York Times (http://www.nytimes.com/2012/10/23/business/fda-receives-death-reports-citing-monster-energy-a-high-caffeine-drink.html?_r=0).

Jesus! Two cans over two days leading to heart arrhythmia and death! Has to be an underlying cause surely?

In moderation, caffeine is a usually a very safe stimulant that can provide benefits such as alertness and improved mood. However, too much caffeine consumption can cause a range of side effects. For most people, about 300 mg of caffeine a day is a healthy level of caffeine consumption. That is roughly equivalent to three cups of coffee

High energy drinks should be taken with caution. I'm suspicious that they increase energy by any noticeable amount and equally suspicious that the potential for side effects is rather more serious.

Underlying cause = Greedy manufacturers who don't give a monkeys about what their stuff does to their consumers. If that much caffeine was put in a pill, it would be banned for it's toxic levels. Different regulations, depending on how you market your poison...
