I'm totally confused now. Why are we voting on this?

CABINET MINISTER RUAIRI Quinn said earlier this morning that the government will consider holding off on formally ratifying the Fiscal Compact even if the electorate vote Yes on 31 May.

I read a tweet yesterday evening that said that the Dutch announced that they would not ratify the treaty. Anyone heard that?

So they want us to come out and vote for something they might not ratify. This referendum is an absolute joke

Like the action of Enda Kenny, the Dutch prime minister, Mark Rutte, has already signed the agreement but parliament needs to give its approval as well.

Geert Wilders is taking legal action against the Dutch state in an effort to stop the Netherlands supporting the European financial emergency fund.

Maybe I'm missing something but I thought that this Ruari Quinn volte face would have been seized on by No campaigners.
We are being asked to vote yes but there's no clarity on what happens when we do vote Yes.

I agree with you - but this is only apart of the disarray - there was Bruton last week.

The problem is that the situation across Europe really has changed since the Referendum was called, and voting Yes makes no sense on any level other than the most crass "we must be better Europeans than anyone else in Europe".

Tánaiste Eamon Gilmore warns of second troika bailout if fiscal treaty rejected so Eamon Gilmore at it too - So why would labour politicians vote for austerity now that we know there will be further funding available if necessary ? What happened to NO other funding available ?

The Tánaiste has said it is more likely that Ireland would have to avail of another round of emergency funding from the troika if the fiscal treaty is rejected.

This Govt is unstable and are hardly in a position to create stability.

The Indo story about Rabbitte admitting that there is no plan and that policy is made from day to day sounds pretty much spot on.
